A former Green Beret’s indispensable course in preparedness, teaching the keys to building a resilient and fearless life
Most people think that being prepared for catastrophe means stocking up on MREs and building a bunker in their backyard, but this approach leaves you vulnerable in the real world of car accidents, natural disasters, grid failures, and global pandemics. Prepared overturns today’s paranoid survival wisdom and teaches the foundational skills of preparedness that will not only help you build situational awareness and achieve greater mobility but that will also help you build resilient mental habits.
After 20 years in the US Army, Special Forces, and as a government contractor for the CIA, Mike Glover has trained thousands of men, women, and families in the art and science of survival. In this book, he shows you how to:
Harness your brain chemistry to eliminate the freeze response and increase your stress tolerance during a crisis
Fortify your home by learning how to use and store essential foods, water, supplies, first aid, and ammunition in your everyday life
Equip your vehicle with sufficient first aid, so you can respond to injuries even before an ambulance arrives—dramatically increasing your chance of survival in an accident
Drawing on Glover’s most dire experiences in combat and in the real world, this book shows you how almost no disaster is more powerful than someone who is truly prepared. For Glover, surviving catastrophe is not about fearing crisis, but creating more resilient habits so that you can be ready for whatever comes your way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting & informative read! Highly recommend!
5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and inspirational
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I'm glad I gave it a chance! It's so informative and inspirational that I couldn't put it down (well, I put it down once because it was after midnight and I was struggling to stay awake, but I came right back first thing the next morning!).
The book is very detailed and thorough, and full of practical advice. The best thing for me personally, however, is that Mike breaks everything down so it's easy to understand, and he tells you how to get started, what to keep in mind, and what to look out for.
I didn't serve in the military, I don't have any medical training, I have caught & cleaned my fair share of fish but I've never been hunting, I don't have a home garden, etc. After reading this book I'm obviously not an expert on any of the topics he discusses, but I feel like I broadly understand what I don't know, and I have a good idea of what I need to do to get started. And there's plenty of topics in the book that don't require any formal training, such as planning & running fire drills at home so everyone knows their P.A.C.E. options for getting out. I'm going to start putting what I learned into action today by discussing this with my family, and after that I'm going to order some tourniquets to keep in my car. And I plan on regularly returning to parts of this book in the future to help improve my family's preparedness over time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! Recommend for everyone
4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for the majority, a great refresher for the minority
Is this book the bible of preparation, I would say for many it might be as many do not move to the next level but even thou they might not at least they can benefit from level one preparation. Is there room for another book where it dives in much deeper for those of us that already have many of the skills and training outlined in the book, Yes.
When I read the negative reviews I found some of them simply sum up our society today and thus the majority of us can just dismiss them as a small handful of people that just do not understand the point of the book and to the one person that cannot believe swear words were used in the making of the book, I am sorry to break the news, but this world can truly suck and in some cases swear words are the words of choice. Do not become a victim based on language, read past the words to the points being made, points that could easily save your life.
I bought 4 copies and gave them to friends to read, friends with no preparedness experience and all of them got something out of the book.
Being prepared is a mindset change more than a list of how many seeds you need to store or carrying a gun or having your bug out bag, it is about changing your mindset to be prepared even if that decision is to retreat or become an expert witness. What we want to avoid is mixing emotions into the preparation mindset. This books helps start the steps to figuring out your mindset and becoming more reliant on yourself than others because in the end, it will only be you.
