I love Zooper. I spent a long time hunting down widget apps in the store that matched my icon set and background. This app allows you to create your own widget exactly how you want it.
I have a widget on my homescreen that displays the date, time, my next alarm, weather, etc. in an artistic manner. I can set each part of that widget as an app shortcut - clicking my next alarm takes me to my alarm, weather takes me to my weather app, etc.
I also made a widget that lists my next appointments (drawn from m google calendar) and organizes them by date. It looks simple and clean.
Zooper Widget is awesome! I never tried the free version, but the paid version rocks.

BATTERY
Zooper Widget has been built from ground up with battery in mind, nothing will be done while your phone sleeps, no weather will be updated if you have no weather information on screen, no location will be updated if you do not ask to.
MEMORY
Zooper Widget does not use much memory when it's running, even with 10 widgets on your screen it won't grow more than 10 megabytes. During configuration however RAM usage can grow even to 25mb, this is normal and the space will be released some time after config is closed. If you're using Bitmaps, off course, due to heavy caching, usage will be higher.

Some widget apps allow rotation, but only for the entire widget. Zooper allows rotation and curving per module! (that's what they call each unique part of a widget, like the date, time, weather, Icons) It has two different types of icons, bitmap and text/font based. Font based icons allow easy and smooth scaling and coloring. You can also use bitmaps, which makes for some great backgrounds and other elements, like buttons for an app launcher!
It has conditionals that allow you to say, show one text if if this condition exists or another if not, like, if the battery level is below a certain level, show "time to charge!" otherwise "OK" or even no text at all. It has plain text and also rich text, so you can have different colored text at different battery levels! It has some built in module styles for quick plug and play of weather, time, date and calendar events but you can edit them or just start with a plain module and edit it to your hearts content!
There are free and paid pre-built widget apps for zooper available as well. You can find text and video tutorials for Zooper Widget on line so you can learn how to make great looking useful widgets and also create APKs and give away or sell on Amazon or the Play store.
