What a beautiful story ❤️

Maddie discovers her great grandmother, Isabelle's diary and learns of a love affair between her and a woman named Lorah. The story affects Maddie in a way that forces her to take stock of her own life and stay in the family estate with her grandfather, much to his delight. With the urge to rejuvenate the family orchard, she meets Dylan, who not only intrigues her, but also has a connection to her great grandmother's past.

This is so much more than romance...it also touches a little on family, loyalty, friendship, and social classes. Beautifully written ❤️

Best book I've read in a very long time

I've read hundreds and hundreds of romances in the past decade, and very few have been bad. Most are at least semi-entertaining, and many have been really good. I've perused the wonderful works of all the very best in the field, the bestsellers and award winners, and admired the writing talents of them all. But to find a book like this, a unique and shining gem of a story by an author i'd never even read before, is something truly unusual. Gerri, you have captivated and moved me with this delightful book, and i am off to browse through your catalogue of tales in search of more like this! 5 well-earned stars for you, please keep up the great work! <chef's kiss>

Gerri really hit it out of the park with this one. What a lovely storyline and the characters are so real! You can almost feel the story in your soul!

I have read every book you have written, many of them more than once. But this one is, IMHO , the best ever. You always do such a great job with developing your characters,, making us fall in love a bit with them. In this book, we got to see deep sadness and how a broken heart can destroy. But we also got to see two hearts joining together, discarding all fears and going for it.

Sappy, yes , but we deserve more sappy during such tumultuous times.

The old one!

Not one but two stories!

This book grabbed my heart and refused to let go! The historical story of Isabel and Lorah, although beautiful, was enough to rip my heart to shreds. The wealthy make some demands on family that prove to be insurmountable at times. As it was with Isabel and Lorah. This book had a touch of surrealism or maybe fantasy. I loved how Maddie learned what was important to her life. That would, of course, be the apple orchard and Dylan. Oh, my goodness, but their love story was epic. I truly lived in these pages and didn't want the book to be over. The best part was that it left me with a happy heart and a smile on my face. I love Gerri Hill's books but this one just went to the top. Please read it!!!

A simple journal can turn out to be a powerful catalyst

The "Apple Diary" is the central symbol in this novel and becomes a catalyst for Madylyn, the protagonist. It forces her to question her sexuality at age 24. As she continues to read the old diary she has discovered in the attic, she becomes quite taken with its writer, her great grandmother, who, in 1933, fell in love with a woman who had visited her house. The great grandmother was married to an unfeeling man who was seldom home, so the yr-long affair flourished until he returned and the visits ceased. The intense longing caused her to have a heart attack at age 36.
How does the diary related to Madylyn's life in current times? Will she somehow find that she, too, has become interested in the woman who is helping to replant the apple orchard?
Reading the diary is heartbreaking, I found the longing very emotional reading, especially for that repressive time period in 1933. The plot surrounding the orchard fits in nicely with the diary as we observe 2 young women trying to come to terms with their own feelings for each other. A well-written novel.
