About this item

After surviving childhood at the snooty, stuck-up boarding school for budding omegas, I have everyone convinced I'm a dud.

My awakening? Never gonna happen. Heat, mates, and a fairytale pack life? Maybe next reincarnation. All I want is to be left alone.

I'm invisible, and headed to a blissful solo future until the Wyvern Pack destroys my dream of independence. But Atlas, Hunter, Finn, Jett, and Orion are poison candy. They don't want an omega, but they need one, even if there will never be a real spot for me in their pack.

Who needs a pack? I’ll keep myself safe, same as always. I'll never awaken, and I'll never ever give the Wyverns my heart...because all they'll do is rip me apart.

This book contains a slow burn, high heat, and growly alpha males. It's intended for mature listeners due to MM content, frequent cursing, and references to past assault that may be disturbing. The author not responsible for any ugly crying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turned up to 11

I didn't want to like this book. I don't want to buy this book. So many people were talking about it. I had heard ravings that it is terrible but just and many, or more, people saying how good it was. So, even though I didn't want to, I decided to read it.

I love omegaverse, its a guilty pleasure of mine. I like a little mm from time to time too. This book has a ton of things that I definitely knew I would like but it came out of no where. So much hype made it trendy and I REALLY hate to bow down to trends. It makes me unreasonably grumpy. I tried really hard not to read this, and then I tried even harder not to like it once I read it, but I COMPLETELY failed. It was amazing.

The whole book was turned up to 11. There were so many emotions, such a depth of feeling, that I was blown away. The plot really revolves around the struggles of their interpack drama. So much drama. The relationship is torture but such delicious torture you just want to soak it all up.

The characters are deeply flawed and its fantastic. I want to know what makes them all tick. Everything is so dysfunctional I just want to revel in it.

The metaphors are way over the top. Take any metaphor you've heard and the kick it up a notch and you get whats in this book. Was it necessary? Probably not. Did it absolutely drill an image into my head immediately? Oh yes. I think this might be off putting to some readers but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a couple places where this might have been taken too far or slang was used and it made me go huh. But generally I didn't mind it and thought it made for some entertaining reading.

For those of you that want to know, I would say this is slow burn. There's a couple of heated scenes but there is just so much angst. There is a fiery passion but so many things keeping them apart. I love that build up and anticipation. There was so much pent up tension I didn't miss the steam at all.

My only complaint is the end. No spoilers but I felt like it coulda, should, gone a little differently. It is, at its core, a romance book though so you gotta do what you gotta do.

In summary it was fantastic. I would 100% recommend it to people that like OV, MM, and a rocky road to relationship building. Very well edited, very well written, overall a great read.

Do wish it was on KU but do not regret spending the money on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable omegaverse romance.

This book had excellent characterization. The world building was vivid, with the details of this alternate omegaverse contemporary society being deftly weaved in to the story without any info dumping. The heroine was flawed and deeply sympathetic, with a ton of trauma baggage. The heroes were all distinct individuals, which is masterful character work in a reverse harem romance with five romantic heroes. I was deeply disappointed that there were no sizzling scenes involving the heroine in this book in the duology. I honestly feel like this story did not need to be a duology. There was quite a bit of flab in this Part 1 which did not really advance the plot or development of the romantic relationship very much. This novel could have contained the same plot elements and relationship development and been at least 100 pages shorter, which would have tightened up the pacing. I deeply appreciated that this Part 1 of the duology ended right after the dark moment in this story without being a cliffhanger. Because of the lack of cliffhanger ending, I went ahead and pre-ordered the next book in the duology, which is thankfully coming out in just a couple months. The primary thing which made me BUY this novel by an author I had never read before was the absolutely amazing cover art! It was so lush and beautiful, so I took a risk and bought the book. I really did thoroughly enjoy the masterful characterization and well justified angst, and will be keeping an eye on this author’s career from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Omegaverse with Strong, Resilient FMC
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024
This Omegaverse is fantastic. The Omegaverse worldbuilding was strait forward and the storytelling had me gripped within the very first chapter. The FMC, Lilah is damaged and mistrusting, but extraordinarily strong, intelligent and resilient. Even after all she has experienced, she still kind and puts others needs ahead of her own. The dynamic between Lilah, the mated Omega, Orion and the Alphas is very tense and full of conflict, which I found quite compelling. This is a multi-POV and each of the main characters has their own baggage and emotional depth that greatly add to the dynamic. Overall, I really enjoyed this duology and it has become one of my favorite Omegaverse!
