5.0 out of 5 stars Well structured blueprint for improvement

The author lays out the process and habits you can implement to improve your mental confidence for any task. There are plenty of examples of people he has worked with and come across in his time, but I felt the road map for your own improvement is what makes this book relatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on high performance in doing anything!

I have read many books on high performance in sports, the arts, business and even your personal life, but this book is by far the best one and thank you Dr. Nate Zinsser for writing it. It is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to apply. It is built on the very true premise that what we think about most of the time is what our lives truly become, and by focusing on constructive thoughts in our past, present and future, we put ourselves in the best position to really perform when it counts. Mr. Zinsser gives a much better understanding about how to design affective affirmations that actually work in addition to so many important strategies to keep you from being your own worst enemy and thinking less of yourself. Buy this book! Read this book! I am so glad I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book on forming a confident mind
Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2023
Hands down one of the best psychology related books I have read. It has that perfect mix of theory, exercises to learn it, and real examples one could follow to better grasp the concepts and implement it themselves.

I think it applies the best for people trying to excel in sports, but really could apply for anyone trying to form a confident mind that will allow them to excel at whatever it is they are trying to do.

I found the exercises super practical and useful. It is not easy to stick to, but if you make it a priority, it will be worth it.

Also, this book shatters many of the myths you hear around "spotlight ", "must win" moments, and how one could perform the best in the most demanding situations.

I bought the Kindle edition of this book. I had read reviews of this book before it was released and I pre-ordered it. I am about 2/3 thirds of the way through. The majority of examples for using these techniques involve athletes and helping them build confidence, there are other examples as well.
This isn’t a quickie ‘I can do it, I can do anything’ kind of book. The author lays out exercises, many of them written for you to do to help you become more confident in what ever you are looking to build you confidence in. For me it is in music. I am primarily a self taught percussionist. I hope the exercises are complied in a final chapter so I don’t have to go back and find them. If you have done any reading at all about the mind body connection, mental healing, meditation, you will see how this book offers a well layer out plan of developing your thinking to achieve your goals. It requires an in-depth look at your mental attitudes. The book also lays out what to do, how to approach your past ‘failures’ and how to deal with current ‘failures’ in your confidence. Overall a very realistic, useable approach to becoming better at what you do.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable resource - should be on every Military leader’s bookshelf

Extremely well-written in a fluid, jargon-free style that provides practical, “battle-tested” guidance to achieving and maintaining confidence in every performance environment. As a Sport and Performance Coach for members of the Military, this book has been my “go-to” for helping individuals overcome the “sewer” cycle of dysfunctional thinking leading to degraded performance, and replace with the “success” cycle of productive thinking and emotional regulation leading to optimal performance - even under very adverse conditions. Highly recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly anecdotal

The first few chapters are quite good, giving you insight into sports psychology and the fundamentals of confidence. After that though it's just anecdote After anecdote. Read the first 100 pages and then close it, unless you want to hear about a million random people.
