Product description

The Petrucci Music Library is a smartphone app for viewing classical sheet music, comprising over 1.6 Million musical scores. The data for the Petrucci Music Library App comes from around 1,600,000 OMR'ed sheets from some 160 thousand scores from the Petrucci Music Library, the Library of Congress and the Duke University Library. They contain almost 370 million notes.

To use this app, enter the artist or composition that you require, and then select from a list of matching musical scores. Once selected, you can flip though the sheet music by swiping left or right, or using the buttons provided.

This application is supported by the Culture Tech Fund, in partnership with the Culture Company which was funded by the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure. The grant funds innovative new projects which combine cultural and artistic output with digital technology. The fund is open to any organisation or freelance professional based in Derry (county or city) or working with a Derry-based partner. The Petrucci Music Library would not have been possible without this funding, and thanks to this grant, this ambitious project has truly come to life.

This app allows a search. Acts as if there are files to view abs then you cannot open the files. It’s wirthless

1.0 out of 5 stars download music?

I have not found an option to download the music to my device. This is not helpful for piano playing as the pages load too slow and require connectivity. Might be acceptable for study, but not performing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Scanned sheet music varies in quality

Some entries were quite easy to read, others smaller and grainy. Also, a reminder that there is piano music, string quartet music, music for flute and piano, full orchestrations, etc., included. You have to search a bit harder to find just the piano only music. But I'd say it is worth the relatively cheap price.

I don't usually give 5 star reviews, believe me, but this app is extremely helpful. The loading of the pages are a bit slow, but you have access to thousands of excellent pieces on a whim. To those wondering, this app includes music for most instruments, not just piano. I found it to be well worth the $2.

1.0 out of 5 stars App mystery

I can't really write a review about this app as I don't have it. I bought it two days ago but it never downloaded or installed and I haven't a clue how to get it. I have a new Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 and it was difficult to get Amazon apps. I installed the app store but this app never really downloaded and there is no way to check anything.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as useful as the website

I'm a professional musician, and I use imslp.org a great deal - it's one of my favorite sites. Unfortunately, this app version of the site is much less useful. Imslp.org lets you download sheet music onto your device. This app does not, and is therefore only useful in times when you have an internet connection. Also, the search engine on the app is much less useful than the one on the site, although the ability to bookmark favorites on the app is interesting.

I was excited when I saw that imslp had created an app, but now I'm only disappointed that it is so much less useful than the website. Don't bother buying this app, just go to [...], and enjoy the same features that the app offers at greater convenience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource

Petrucci is a wonderful means of accessing various editions of the same composition. You will have to know something about the name the piece you are seeking such as the a portion of the title, opus number and the composer's name. This will return a list of compositions available. When I searched for Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 using just Beethoven and 131 as search criteria it returned at least six editions with parts. On the negative side, I do wish it will allow for down loading as previously mentioned but overall I find it very helpful for research and maybe even playing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Promising, but Unbelievably Disappointing.

Please, expand this app to include the full Petrucci library!

This app does not retrieve many results at all, and most of the ones it does are piano scores for whatever reason. As a French Horn player, I wish it included the full (and wonderful) might of the IMSLP Petrucci Library. However, it does no such thing. Until it does, skip this.

What should this app be? Tablets and sheet music are a match made in heaven. In addition to the basic music libraries, this app needs to provide various functionalities for reading that music - page turning aids, maybe even an intelligent scrolling system that allows you to move over page breaks more easily. It should have built-in metronome and tuning capabilities, maybe even something that can automatically read the meter of the music it is displaying to allow a mixed-meter metronome. These are all dreams for practice, but hey, this app doesn't even try, so... one star.
