5.0 out of 5 stars Great little starter camera
Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2023
I moved over from film about 25 years ago, but even though I have had access to various digital cameras over the years, I still saved my "Good" photography for my Canon EOS 35mm film camera.
At first, development costs drove me to online services, then, I setup a small darkroom to take care of the job myself.

Now I had to make a decision; Buy a decent film scanner to make prints, or just make the move to all-digital.

I purchased this camera, because I had a large investment in Canon EF lenses already. When I found out that my old EF lenses for my 35mm rig would work on these EOS digital cameras, I pulled the trigger on this unit.

I am very happy with the camera, and it came with most of the important accessories. (Battery, charger, etc)

The above 2 photographs were done handheld, in the poorest light I could imagine. No flash, regular LED room lighting. The picture of the camera is one I took of my latest, point and shoot camera, not the camera in this review.

I am impressed. Cannot wait to get it outside, and see what sunlight can do for the pics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Camera for the Price -- Great Step Up From Small Point-and-Shoot Jokers
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2016
Superb DSLR for the price! Great photo quality in almost any scenario / condition, long battery life, and included Canon 18-55mm Imagine Stabilization II lens works masterfully and makes this a great value package. Eye-Fi Mobi 16GB SD card works well... at least with photos -- haven't shot video yet. Be sure to use a Class 10 or UHS-1 or faster SD card if you are going to shoot video -- this will ensure a fast and smooth write process to the SD card (this is also true for pics). Not sure why cameras can't take high quality yet somewhat small PNG image files -- a max-quality JPEG isn't much smaller than a 24-bit PNG yet noticeably lower quality, as PNG is lossless compression and JPEG is lossy.
Moving on... includes a stand mount on bottom. Easy to use for anyone and will feel very familiar to Canon users. Be sure to read up on how to access and utilize more advanced features -- you paid for them and it's got the capability. For us casual "photographers" wanting something better than your common Point-and-Shoot, this is it. I.E. if you take a lot of scenic photos traveling and/or family photos, do yourself a favor and take those pictures that will last forever on a nice camera like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The T5 is for You
Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016
When looking for a solid camera that preforms all the functions that you’ll want and need when either taking a video or shooting still pictures, then the Rebel T5 is for you. The T5 is a great camera for those beginners who are looking to get into more advanced photography and even some filming. The simplistic design allows beginners to dive in to the camera and not have to worry so much settings and researching how to even get started. I have personally had multiple Canon cameras and the T5 is by far my favorite.
Other reviews main negative talk is about the slowness of the auto focus. However it does matter where you are shooting and the lighting that you are, but I have very few problems with it at all. The T5 is just a great overall camera, with the ability to shoot as clearly as it does while still being able so light and easy to hold. It is hard to find a camera out there that can do all this and still be at such a reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow to autofocus in portrait mode
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2023
Good solid camera with bright eye screen in view finder. View finder has light sensors arranged in a crosswise diamond shape with 9 points of light tracking, so is it center sensor? Perhaps averaging metering, but it appears to be center weighted. Back screen doesn't move, but displays all the needed information. No external microphone port, but does have useful USB and HDMI (mini) ports. Sharp imaging across the visual field with little parallax to cause fringing around the edges. Excellent controls in manual mode, although the camera in movie mode shuts down after 30 minutes +/- which is annoying. Good beginner's camera, but for more advanced users, I'd recommend getting the T6i instead.

This camera is just plain awesome!

We upgraded from the cheaper point-and-shoot pocket cameras and I was wondering which DSLR camera to get. I mainly compared Nikon to Cannon and asked several Best Buy employees pros and cons. Basically it comes down to this:

Cannon has slightly better electronics to the camera and the interface/menus seem to be a little more intuitive.
Nikon has slightly better lenses.

So we purchased the Rebel T5 and the battery life is excellent and has been a great entry level DSLR camera. the only downside that I have ever noticed is that this has 3 pictures continuous speed. But that was only a slight disappointment coming from an iPhone 5s that has about 10 frames per second for rapid speed pictures. But I'm completely satisfied with this camera and it takes great pictures for how we use it. As always the camera doesn't just MAKE good pictures, you have to obviously use it correctly and on the proper settings (meaning you can still get some blurry pictures if you don't pay attention)... For just coming into the DSLR camera scene myself I found the Cannon Rebel T5 to be just a great product and I will be more inclined to get another Cannon next time.
