1.0 out of 5 stars Bugs Bugs and More Bugs

I have used Quicken since the first version - and been a bigot in their favor. Not right now. 07 version is horribly bug ridden.

Tells me I am out of memory, but when I do a memory dump I have over 600meg free of physical memory, tells me I have low space on a hard drive with 40gbytes free. Ok, so the warnings are wrong. I can handle that.

When I download, most accounts work fine. But one account of 3 I download from my bank suddenly does not work correctly. It downloads transactions - they show in on-line center and match what is online at bank, but when you go to the account register to accept them, it says no transactions exist, but account list shows flag for transactions and mouse over says I have new ones to accept.

Ok so some problem, and if it weren't my main checking account I might be more tolerant, but it is and I need it to work. So I go online and search FAQ's - do all the recommended clean-ups - works once kind of - at least finally got things done. Then it stops again (mind you 10 others work fine but are smaller in transaction volume by one or two magnitude.) I try to do email support, but they require order number which when I take it off their email confirmation is one digit longer than field on form, so it won't submit. Try the chat feature, it won't go thru, try feedback, it abends. Tried each of these during workday, at night, and on weekend - same result. Makes one think they want you to use the pay by minute call line? Very frustrated with them right now. Have sent them actual screen shoots of problems - hope they fix, but getting very doubtful of results.

I am a CTO of a major company and have a lot of understanding for bugs - these are complex systems to be sure, but this is unacceptable to have bugs and poor support functions; and sell me an 07 version that is not much better than the 04 version I had been using successfully for years.

I am trying Money 07 trial version!

I upgraded from QD2006. Installation was uneventful. Took my previously validated 2006 data set and converted to 2007 with no problems. I really like the new user interface, the bold colors and shading are attractive. Much better than the selections in 2006. Functionally, I haven't seen anything new that really caught my eye.

Haven't had any usage problems so far, but I don't use online bill pay and I have never needed to print anything in all the years I have used quicken. I mention this as it seems this is where other people have had problems. All in all I am pleased with the upgrade. Quicken continues to provide me with all the financial functionality I need, as it has for more than a decade.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quicken quality has changed for the worse
Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2007
Am computer literate, and have used both Quicken and Turbo Tax for 10+ yrs.
The product has become littered w/internal ads you cannot get rid of (customization feature does *not* allow removal of Quicken self-promotion ads). Although the software still delivers fundamental needs of Home Accounting, my comments are directed at the quality of the program and the purposeful marketing embedded into the product that you (the customer who *PAID* to use it) now has to endure. 1) You can only use Quicken's OFX download method for adding data to Chkg/Savings/CredCard, unless you you want to hand enter everything. They charge banks for this - so they (Intuit) benefit from this financially. And now banks are starting to charge us consumers (EX: Wachovia $5.95/mo *per* account!). 2) Any OFX problems and you have to deal w/Quicken via their email/submittal question procedure - if you want to talk to a person it will cost you $25 bucks each time. 3) My history is that I have updated Quicken 2 of 6 total times over the last 10 years because I wanted to - the rest of the purchases were forced by Quicken as the account I was managing would no longer allow updates for one reason or another if I didn't - even if I did not need or want the new feature. I know that sounds strange, but the design and problem was such that I had no choice. So effectively I have *bought* ('update'=BOUGHT) the program over and over at least 6 times over the last 10 years. Problem is I'm fed up w/2007 version as the issues above just keep growing. This was a great product in its beginning - when they (Intuit) needed customers. Now it appears to have changed - the product is more important than its customers. They get you hooked into their OFX system, then advertise into your head (Quicken Mastercard and Quicken BillPay) each time you use the product. This is considered clever I guess - but I regard that and the product's design now as a purposeful marketing trap that continues to get worse each year. So yes - it will do some good things - but know going in you are not making a purchase - you are buying into a long-term lease that even 'suggests' you change banks if they dont use Quicken OFX! I'm now looking to change to a more customer-oriented financial software package because I've realized Intuit is not going to change this behavior. Expect Quicken 2008/9/10 to be even more intrusive and self-promoting. FAQ's will explain why all this is a good thing - and customer feedback on these concerns will get you a trite 'Thank you for your comment' response from Quicken/Intuit.
Good luck - this product will work fine as long as you play by their rules paying the extra bank fees if needed, etc..
