5.0 out of 5 stars Easy install, low road noise, durable
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2024
TL/DR: The rack and bag were easy to install, survived around 1000 miles of driving at speeds up to 85mph, no leaks in torrential rain, no tears at stress points, and not a lot of road noise.

I bought this for a trip to the upper peninsula in Michigan to hold a couple big suitcases, two beach bags, and one small bag. I was concerned about road noise, tearing, and water leakage after reading other reviews for this and similar products. It did create some road noise but it didn't seem to be much more than what I normally hear. I drove through some light rain on the way up and a few torrential downpours on the way back and had no water in the bag upon arrival at either destination. All of the seams held up and I had no tears around the anchors of the straps. The only thing I didn't like was the first time having to adjust the straps. It was a little difficult and took longer than I was hoping. Overall, it worked exactly as advertised and I do recommend this product and would likely buy it again if I had the need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product

I had this put together yesterday, then viewed a YouTube video. I then ordered caps for the ends of the tubing, and went to Homedepot a got a can of clear rustolium this morning. I took the carrier apart and applied two coats, and am waiting of course for the caps to be delivered. These steps should not be necessary on an item that is going to be outside in the elements. To procect my purchase I have to go to great lengths than I should. Now I have to reassemble it, and hope it won't rust. Like everything this us not made here. It seems sturdy enough, so we will see. Update as I just got back from our trip. The bag is very big, and the straps are very nice to secure the load. I always use tie dows to secure it. Full size cooler, gas, water, firewood, then on the way home I put the fold up chairs, and plastic folding tables on top. Very nice. There was some thunder storms but the inside of the bag was dry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product but supplied hardware not the best
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024
Took this on a roughly 900 mile trip, didn't have any problems at all. Didn't encounter any rain, so can't comment on how waterproof the bag is.

The total package includes just about everything you'll need to pack and tote your items and mount the whole thing to a trailer hitch (2 inch receiver). The anti-rattle plate that's supplied did exactly what it was supposed to do: no noise/rattles at all as we drove along. Assembly was fairly straightforward.

My main concern has to do with the hardware. The bolts and nuts "seemed" well made, but the lock washers seemed cheap: thin, flimsy, and it looked like they're made of a poor grade of metal, and I did NOT TRUST them to keep things securely fastened over a long, possibly bumpy, trip. I STRONGLY suggest that if you use the supplied hardware at a minimum you put thread-lock (e.g., blue Loc-Tite) on the threads. Better yet, replace the supplied nuts (they're all metric, so finding replacements may be tricky) AND the lock-washers with more robust ones. Even better, which is what I did, replace the lock washers and nuts with lock nuts (the ones with nylon inserts), and to make life easier replace everything used for the hitch part with SAE (i.e., not metric) hardware; SAE because it's easier to find the necessary items than finding metric ones.

Related to hardware, the kit includes several wrenches to tighten the nuts. They're almost laughable: flat, short, simply stamped metal, and I doubt you can comfortably and effectively use them to tighten the nuts and feel that they'll be and stay secure, especially if you use the cheap lock nuts. Get the proper size box or open-ended wrenches, or sockets, to do the job right and feel confident that nothing is going to work it's way loose and possibly fall apart while on your journey.

One other heads-up: The storage bag is made of relatively stiff material (which is good; I think it's the same stuff medical examiners use as body bags), but when the zippers are pulled all the way back (in the "open" position) it's very hard to straighten the corners of the bag to get the zippers on their way to closing. My advice: once you get the zippers away from the full-open position don't pull them completely back to the corners when you're done: leave them 1-2" from the corners. You'll still have plenty of room to insert stuff into he bag and you'll also save yourself the hassle of trying to move the zippers out of the corners to close the bag again..

Overall, a good buy, with some caveats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well and looks durable

The product worked very well. I got it for moving, and it helped me to transport a few big boxes to my new place. I put it on top of a Subaru Outback and the stand fit well. The container helps the boxes to stay dry during some light rain. The bag definitely still looks durable, and I can use it in the future. Overall, a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just say no to the roof bag

I bought this for a road trip from Georgia to Wyoming and back. It was easy to assemble and attach to my SUV. It easily fit 4 solid body carryon sized suitcases. It didn’t leak when it rained and proved to be very durable. I saw other travelers struggling with roof bags and was glad I went with the rear rack option.

Very well built. Easy to assemble. Solid and safe. Rack storage is heavy duty, plenty of storage space, and keeps contents completely protected from the elements!! You don’t even notice it’s presence while driving!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick!

Great value for the price. Easy to assemble but use your own wrenches. Most of the accessories are quality - bag is thick and waterproof with a good zipper, straps are sturdy, net is well assembled. The lock included is the only eh thing but it still works just seems flimsy. Only criticism would be it did rain the entire 12+ hour drive it was first used and there are some rusty drips and water marks on the product. No visible rust but it makes me unsure how long and how many trips it will actually last.
