UPDATE: The first unit is still working flawlessly (four months, now). The second unit, that I bought using the "50% off a second device" promo code they provided with the first unit, arrived very quickly and is also working great. As a matter of fact, yet again using the "50% off a second device" promo code they provided with the second unit, I bought a third unit at half-price again! This is a great company!
Original Review: Item arrived quickly, well-packaged and as described. Device has been in use for three months. Some things to know about this device: 1) It only moves air, it does not add heat to the air being moved; 2) The remote controls fan speed only, it does not adjust the temperature setting; 3) If set up properly, it will actually save on heating costs and help keep a room warmer. My house has (somewhat insulated) under-floor ducting with a long run to a single register in the back bedroom; this room was always 3-5 degrees cooler than the rest of the house. Installation was very simple, especially since there happens to be a 110V outlet near the register I replaced. With the central heater not running, I pulled out the old register and dropped the Biowind fan in its place and plugged in the power cord. I then pushed the MODE button to turn on the display to show the temperature of the air in the duct (63 degrees in my case). I then followed the directions in the manual to set the fan’s “come on/trigger” temperature to 65 degrees, which is 2 degrees above the static duct temperature (Note: this method is different than what the manual states… it says to set the trigger temperature with the heater running). And that was it, other than using the remote to select a desirable fan speed/noise level (it does get a bit louder as the fan speed increases). With this set up method, the booster fan is off until the heater starts running and the duct temperature reaches 65 degrees at which point the booster fan starts to run. And, it will continue to run until the heater eventually turns off, and the duct temperature drops to below 65 degrees. In my case the booster fan runs for 15-20 minutes after the heater turns off. Now some reviewers have stated that the booster fan actually blocks quite a bit of the airflow coming from the duct, so it’s not really doing anything and may slow down the heating process. This could be true if the booster fan is set at very low fan speeds. However, at higher fan speeds it does do some airflow boosting. But, boosted airflow is not the main feature of this device… moving the heat from out of the duct into the room is what’s really important. Think of the air duct as a heat reservoir while the heater is running and even after the heater goes off. The air sitting in the duct is still hot for quite while (up to 117 degrees in my case) and has no place to go but to be slowly dissipated under the floor. With the booster fan continuing to run after the heater has gone off, it’s pulling that “wasted” heat out of the duct and into the room; and, will continue to do so until the duct temp drops below the “trigger” temp setting (65 degrees in my case). Another nice thing about this booster fan, when fan comes on it starts low and quietly and then slowly gets up to speed. The booster fan comes with info on how to get 50% off a second device, which I took advantage of with the company responding very quickly and I had the second device very quickly (and, at half-price!). It’s near impossible to determine if (and/or how much) this device saves on my heating costs due to outdoor temperature differences from day-to-day compared to before installing it, but I know for a fact that the back bedroom is 3-5 degrees warmer now. It comes with a 2-year warranty; I bought the 4-year extended warranty for $11.99; now covered for 6 years. I have, and would, purchase again. Note: I think it would be helpful if the seller made the User Manual available on the Amazon listing so prospective buyers could get a better feel for how this device works.
