5.0 out of 5 stars Leo Jaymz 1st Gen, Someone returned and I purchased for a song.
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2024
Was looking for a new axe to play, i play some bass and dabble on other instruments and like to record and make my own stuff. I really wasn't looking to go back to my local Guitar Center. Did a little research and came across this guitar from a friend. Then saw a video of another person playing it and commenting how nice it was for such an inexpensive guitar. Looked online and here on Amazon and they were out of the model and color i wanted Violet Flame and Violet Ocean. It sold out fast apparently for those 1st gen units.

A week later i get notice while on amazon website and see one used marked returned unknown reason, but in original box with everything. Took a chance thinking minor things i can fix easy enough and setup is par for the course on most guitars anyway, and they(Amazon) have money back if it doesn't work so.
Guitar arrived and the outside box didn't inspire hope if i am honest. I calmly opened it up taking my time and then got to the inner boxing and foam protection molded blocks.

To my surprise it looked new, untouched. Gently picked it up and checked it for blemishes, none. Checked the neck, Seems straight and the frets smooth. The back of the neck was nice and smooth. Nut while plastic isn't junk plastic, its actually a decent quality for the type it is. I checked the fret board with scale and frets with gauge, it was all within spec. restrung it and tuned. Holy cow it is an easy no frills guitar to play. Most use pedal effects anyway and this single knob 3 switch is built for shredding and is just a joy to play.

I paid no where near retail for it (embarrassed to say how little i paid). Absolutely love this guitar almost as much as i did my 1983 Aria Pro II Urchin Deluxe. I think this guitar has that type of potential , really. The 3rd gen models now come with cases and locking tuners to make them even better low cost options!

Appreciate the detail that went into this guitar that was designed for entry level but plays and shows above its station. Obviously shipping a guitar can have an impact on your experience as it could arrive damage, i was lucky and didn't suffer that in this case and just want to be fair and honest with folks i feel i got very lucky with this purchase to get a nice instrument undamaged.

Thanks for listening to my long winded and personal review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Stunning!
Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2024
Like so many others, I purchased this guitar based on Guitar Max and The Bald Shredder's Youtube reviews. All I can say is, "WOW!" And "THANK YOU!"

I don't have a ton of time to share everything I love about this guitar, so I'll just be brief...
    - Perfect setup straight out of the box
    - rounded frets are so smooth
    - great sustain
    - locking tuners are excellent -- haven't had to tune it in days
    - roasted maple neck looks so nice
    - no defects anywhere
    - pickups sound awesome

I could go on and on... just want to point out that some reviews mention an unpleasant smell? One reviewer stated it was ammonia. The scent is most certainly Linseed Oil, which is used to condition fretboards. In past few years, I have played many budget guitars, and even compared them to very expensive guitars. This Monsoon is "hands-down" my favorite guitar at the moment. It feels perfect in my hands, and sounds incredible. The guitar arrived so perfect... I can only assume that reviewers reporting bad setup, or damage actually received a used guitar that had been tampered with by someone else. I realize Amazon needs to break even on customer returns, but when it comes to returned instruments, they're not great at evaluating the condition and playability. If the Leo Jaymz guitar that you received sucks, I highly recommend exchanging it for another -- give them another try. I'm blown away by the quality, personally. I may need to get the SG and Les Paul. Leo Jaymz rocks!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT guitar (for the money)
Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025
This really is a great guitar, and for the price it's a no-brainer.

The first guitar soon had a failed selector switch, but replacement came quickly and without complaint.

I took it to my local luthier for an initial setup. (And let's be honest, ANY guitar will need an initial setup from the factory. If you buy your guitar from a small or big brand shop, they've likely done that before you see it. But ordering online, you're likely to need this setup. It's not a "cheap guitar" thing. Or a "Chinese guitar" thing. It's a "guitar" thing, and especially a "guitar that has been shipped, jostled, bumped, flipped, sat in different temps, humidities, etc.." thing.

Luthier wasn't familiar with the brand, but was impressed with frets, finish, etc. NO high frets detected. He was able to get the action reasonably low with no buzzing. (Know that the jumbo frets can cause some buzzing if your technique isn't up to snuff. That's not the guitar.)

It plays excellent! The pickups are strong and bright. With distortion, it gives a strong growl. Though it's designed as a 'shredder' guitar, its tones can handle most styles. (You probably won't miss the lack of a tone knob.)

Did I mention that it's absolutely beautiful?

I am glad I bought it and would do so again.

Plays really good. It came Set-up pretty well but I feel like I need to tweak the bridge and maybe work a couple frets to get it perfect. The locking Tuners are great. Stays in tune and adjust very smoothly. Pickups are very hot. Will be gigging it very soon as well as recording with it. Looks great. Kinda wish it had a bit more gloss but it's fine really. I still prefer my Jackson and schecter but this is not far behind for a fraction of the $ . Thank you Leo
