Have used 5 of the 22 nozzles in this package. Two started slowly but opened right up with a quick rap from a fingernail. After many hours all 5 still work fine.
I have some flowers that love sunlight but their location can be too sunny on a clear day. Photos show a 5-foot misting wand that can be placed by the plants. It works great. Nothing gets watered too much, and nothing dries out dangerously.
How "thirsty" are these nozzles? I put the misting wand inside a larger pipe with the end set to drain in a bucket. Thirty minutes later the bucket held 3.5 quarts. That would be 7 quarts (1.75 gallons) per hour. Water pressure here is set to 50 psi. On average, each nozzle sprayed 0.35 gallons per hour. That's certainly frugal watering. It's reasonably close to the vendor's advertised 0.5 gallons per hour.
For this project I used a 5-foot piece of CPVC pipe, brand name PEX. It's available in white, red, or the blue I used. The Shark Bite fittings on the ends cost more than some other fittings but with Shark Bite you don't need to buy any special tools. Just push the pipe into the fitting. Then there's an adapter to connect the pipe thread end to a hose thread end, and then a quick-connect fitting to the shutoff valve and hose. Some Teflon tape keeps the threaded fittings watertight. Of course the fitting on the opposite end seals the pipe closed so water only comes out the misting nozzles. If you're familiar with fittings do it any way you want. If all this is a mystery to you then do what I did at my orange big box store: ask an expert. Once you have the right pieces this could be the easiest puzzle ever assembled.
Apache 99000322 1/2" x 260' Spool of Teflon Thread Seal Tape
My nozzles are evenly spaced about a foot apart. All point in the same direction. Design yours any way you like. My wand simply sits in notches on a couple pieces of scrap wood.
I used the
Greenlee DTAP10-24 Combination Drill and Tap Bit, 10-24NC
to make the threaded holes for the little nozzles. This is not like drilling a hole. You need to make little holes in the pipe, then gently, gently tap some threads in those little holes. This bit makes the little hole and then cuts screw threads in the side of each hole. If you use a power drill, use the lowest, slowest setting. Be gentle. I put a bit of masking tape on the bit so I would know when to stop.
No tools needed for installing the nozzles. Gently screw them finger-tight. Easy.
My plants are hydrated. I'm happy. And I hope you found this helpful.
