Most self-help books are very wordy and navel-gazy. This is neither of those things and that's what makes it such a good read. It's thoughtful but tells an important story. It makes you think without having to do a workbook. I'll come back to this one more than once just to make sure I'm not falling into the same old traps. Self realization is powerful, and Kevin gets that.

"Nugget alert. Just because people aren’t like you doesn’t mean they’re not capable. Because there’s only one you. There are not going to be more versions of you. You can’t judge others by comparing them to yourself. You have to let people show you what they’re capable of. Because when you’re so worried about people doing it wrong, you never give them a chance to do it right."
Excerpt, It Will All Work Out

This was a comical, short and neatly managed inspirational piece about what it means to drift away from your chosen path and perhaps find your way back. He introduces a concept called the Control Monster which is a part of your internal navigational system. He describes it as a fearsome beast that manages your need to control a multitude of situations that you tend to not have nor need control over. This book is a guide to how to overcome and defeat this very thing. He says, "Any form of control is really just protection. And you get protective because you’re afraid. And you’re afraid because you don’t trust. Let me say it again: Any form of control, at the end of the day, is really just protection. And you get protective because you’re afraid of something bad happening. And the reason you’re afraid of something bad happening again is because you don’t trust yourself or others to handle a situation."

It is great content, perhaps not in the best format. I would have loved to see info presented perhaps live in a podcast or show format. I couldn't get his voice out of my head, which actually worked well for me. Check it out for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kevin Hart shares his self evaluation, and some of his thoughts may also apply to me

Kevin Hart presents a serious subject in a friendly humorous way. I too have a monster and he was exactly right when he described where it came from. I appreciate his message and will give it strong thought. I will implement some of it but I'm still dealing with the people that I developed these defenses for. The defenses work still in these situations - I think. But in newer areas, yes. I will try to be aware. This was an interesting book as Kevin Hart shares his thoughts and experiences.

I picked this up on a whim. It's one of the free books offered by Amazon Prime Reading for July 2023, and I've always liked Kevin Hart so I chose this. It's actually an essay. He writes about his journey in overcoming his controlling tendencies and learning to truly live life in a healthy way. It's very evident that since his terrible car accident he's gained a new perspective. He also gives advice to the reader.

I really enjoyed this. I like his style! One thing really boggled my mind was something he included. I had just finished reading Confessions by St. Augustine of Hippo. I picked this up as lighter fare right after, and lo and behold he quoted St. Augustine on page 6: “The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder." What are the odds?

This is a very short essay at around 43 pages. He has written others and they're on Amazon, so this won't be the last that I'll read.

Advice always seems easier to take when delivered humorously. Kevin does this as well as anyone, and because he's so multifaceted, you can literally hear him saying these things. Great read!

I did like the realness to the book and how it felt like Kevin Hart was talking straight to me. I didn’t like the cussing. It’s an easy, quick read. There are some good nuggets about not letting control rule you, true happiness & how to obtain it. Definitely an adult book due to profanity.

I got this as an Amazon First Reads book expecting some humor. Instead it was a very, very short book on control.

There were some really good advice about the different types of control that people may have and ways in ehich a person can confront it to become self-control, butI was not interested in it overall.
