Note: this is advertised as a MAC product, but I assure you it is for both MAC and PCs. I am using it on my Windows Vista based laptop.
First, I purchased this product from an Amazon affiliate vendor, Hebrew World, not Amazon; thus, I had to pay for shipping. That being noted, Hebrew World upgraded my shipment to two (2) day shipping at no extra charge. Instead of the long wait from Amazon affiliate vendors, I received this item in two days! I am very impressed with that added nicety.
Regarding the software, it is great if you are in the process of learning Biblical Hebrew or would like to do so. Hebrew World also includes a free program audio CD with this that contains the first four chapters of Genesis on it. Each chapter contains two different tracks, one read at a very slow speed and the other at regular speed, which is also slow enough that you can follow along with it quite nicely. Furthermore, just for the Hebrew Bible Narrated mp3 cd set, Hebrew World charges the least than any of the other Amazon affiliates as well as every other place I have checked outside of Amazon. Hebrew World is also the only company that includes the aforementioned bonus audio cd, as well.
I am very impressed with this vendor, Hebrew World, and I would not hestitate to patronize them again in the future.
If I remember correctly, one of the reviewers said that not every Bible chapter is in numerical order and must be searched for? I would like to address that. I have tried the Apple players (QuicTime, etc.) and MS Win Media Players 10 and 11. I do not like any of those. Those do not load and play mp3 disks in track number order and are a tremendous pain to have to constantly choose one track at a time in order to get items such as this and other such products to just load and play in continuous and correct order.
The only player that I like and that does do that, i.e., what I need it to do, even if the cd's mp3 tracks are in folders on the cd, e.g., I have Dr. J. Vernon McGee's 10 volume mp3 set of his 5-year Thru The Bible program (in English), and each Bible book has its own folder on the disks.
With both of the above mentioned items and everything else, the only player that loads and plays whatever and everything you want to load and play in track number order is Real Player, no fuss, no hassles, just put a disk in your CD or DVD drive, sit back and listen to as much of whatever at a time in precise track number order you desire. Real player also remembers where you left off and continues from there without forcing you to save anything to your computer's hard disk drive. Real Player does not make you keep on searching for the next track to play every single time one track finishes playing. This also does tie in with the reviewer who said that you have to search out certain tracks to play. I wonder if He/She tried this with Real Player? I have and every track is in numerical track number order, thus every chapter of every book of the Old Testament/Tanakh is there and plays in the correct order.
Question: I'm looking for an mp3 player that will work correctly with Real Player for items such as the above as well as audiobooks and is flash based. Please email me with your suggestions based upon your personal knowledge and experience with the given mp3 players. I Just purchased a Sony Walkman S series mp3 player and already know I am going to need to buy a second mp3 player for a few things such as audiobooks. Thank you very much in advance for your assistance in this matter.
Now, back to the Hebrew Bible Narrated review. Whether or not you are familiar with the Hebrew language, this is an awesome product. The reader's voice is pleasing to listen to; his diction is excellent; he reads slowly enough that you can easily follow along but not so slowly that it's boring or unnatural (unlike a number of Hebrew speed speakers and readers); the Hebrew is Sephardic, not Ashkenazi.
For me, the Ashkenazi Hebrew dialect is extremely confusing and makes no sense--I HATE IT! On the other hand, the Sephardic dialect, which is also the official version of Hebrew in Israel, makes perfect sense and again, regarding myself, Sephardic is so much easier to understand, especially 1) if you are either learning Hebrew (Biblical or Modern) or want to begin learning Hebrew. Just as written documents stand as is because neither the author nor anybody else is present with you while you are reading, listening, especially to a foreign or second language, the same holds true. Thus, when you are listening to this product and there is nobody standing in front of you to answer numerous questions regarding Ashkenazi (who also will not get angry at you to begin with), in my opinion, you would be more than happy that this is read in Sephardic Hebrew.
To conclude, not only do I highly recommend this product, the "Hebrew Bible Narrated," but I further also highly recommend that you purchase it from Hebrew World through Amazon.com, none of the other vendors.
