5.0 out of 5 stars Transmitter works great with my Beats Fit Pro earbuds & my non-bluetooth TV
Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2024
I had a frustrating time getting the Transmitter to pair with my Beats Fit Pro earbuds. Instructions on the earbuds said to put the earbuds case into "pairing mode". I could only get it to go into pairing mode when the case was plugged in to charging cable. (It might have worked without plugging it in if the case was fully charged -- but it was at 72%). Once I got the earbuds case into paring mode, I had no problem pairing them with the Transmitter. Plugged the provided 3.5 cable into the Transmitter and the 3.5 audio out port on my TV, plugged the provided USB cable into the Transmitter and the TV's USB port (which luckily is right next to the audio out port or I might've needed a longer cable). Sounds great, though there is a VERY slight delay. The audio is ever-so-slightly behind the lip movements of the actors on the TV show. I got used to it after a few minutes. I'm happy with this purchase. It serves the purpose I got it for. (Hopefully it'll keep going with no problems. Just set it up today.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the money, works with Sony WF-1000XM3
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2022
As I am sure is the case with many, I purchased this after seeing it listed by the New York Times in their portable BT transmitter review list. It was bought specifically to allow me to transmit BT audio from my computer to my Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds. As the Sony earbuds only support SBC with these, I wasn't expecting stellar audio quality - I usually use them for lectures or podcast-like content, or for fairly low-bitrate music anyway. I wanted to see if the advantages of true-wireless earbuds were worth the sacrifice in quality before I invested in a more expensive BT transmitter and BT receiver+high-end IEMs. As such, I do not use the receive function, and I do not use the battery on the unit - it is always plugged in via USB. I did briefly test the battery though and can confirm it lasts at least 30m.

Note: I went with this type unit, instead of USB, because I wanted to have the ability to test it in multiple environments, including while running and in the car for single-ear usage. Normally, I'd go with a USB solution for computer use in order to avoid the conversion of the audio to and back from analog.

Initial Setup

Dead simple - I connected the Line Out on my computer to the input on the transmitter, and alternately, the HP (headphones) out on my stereo receiver to the input on the transmitter. I also tried it with a Sansa Clip+ MP3 player. It worked in all cases, though with the WF-1000XM3 I had to keep the input volume on the BT transmitter under 30% and allow the headphones to do the real amplification, as otherwise the audio would distort.

BT Setup

Fairly simple. I put my earbuds into pairing mode, the transmitter into pairing mode, and they connected within 10s. Afterward, they maintained their connection for the most part, I've had to re-pair a couple times over the last three weeks, but that is mostly a learning curve. Re-pairing is easy - just hold the pairing button down for two seconds and place the receiving device in pairing mode.

Range

Unpredictable, and sensitive. If the transmitter is located on a desk, at least twelve inches away from other electronics, then the range is remarkable. I can leave the room, pass through the adjacent room, and enter into the next room - a total of maybe thirty feet, through two or three walls - and start to lose audio at the end. This is despite being only five feet from a wireless router. However, if I move the transmitter six inches over so it is next to my monitor, or a couple feet so that it is within three feet of the router, the earbuds will begin to drop out even at ten feet. So it is very sensitive to environment.

Audio Quality

Decent. Better than I expected, but I haven't used bluetooth audio in ten years. It can be hard to really gauge it, because the Sony WF-1000XM3 are true wireless earbuds and I can't A/B test them to compare BT quality to a cable. I would say that the BT audio quality is equivalent to that produced when my Sony earbuds are connected to my smartphone. While it is decent, it can't compare to wired earbuds of even fairly middling quality. You lose highs and lows. For dialogue content, lectures and the like, no issue.

Summary

Seems to be a great entry-level transmitter for the average consumer. I'm glad I bought it, because it is reliable and easy to use, and has shown me that the freedom of using wireless earbuds is definitely worth the hit to quality - I can always use my full circumaural headphones if I want to watch a movie or listen critically. Would recommend.

Got this instead of having to purchase a soundboard or speaker system (specific electronics) to be able to use a Bluetooth headset with a TV. Easy to set up and easy to use, works perfectly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but some flaws

Writing this after 2 days of use. Relatively easy to set up and works fairly well, at least for now. Several issues I noticed that may/not apply to everyone. For context, I'm using this in TX/Transmitter mode to avoid using cables between my TV and Soundbar.
1) Latency - very minor in SBC mode, but noticeable. I'm unable to cycle to use aptX codecs with lower latency, presuming my soundbar doesn't support it. I double press the #1 button several times (slowly and quickly, but nothing changes). My soundbar has audio delay settings, so should be ok.
2) Every time the soundbar reconnects to bluetooth, it sets the volume to maximum. There's no way to change this setting and it only started to happen with this bluetooth adapter. This is super annoying and makes the soundbar unusable without having a remote onhand to adjust the volume down before scaring everyone.
3) When I try to connect my phone or other device to my soundbar using WiFi to play music, the soundbar auto-reconnects to the bluetooth receiver on TV and stops WiFi playback. This is super annoying and makes the soundbar only usable with TV.

If the above doesn't sound like deal-breakers, it may work perfectly well for you. But for my use cases, this will not be acceptable.

I needed a way to use my growing collection of bluetooth wireless earbuds and headsets with older audio equipment. My specific use case is to use my ancient Sony SRF-59 Walkman AM/FM radio *at the ballpark* / venue with my BT earbuds. For many years, I've worn wired earbuds with the radio and recently wondered what would it take to use my wireless buds with it.

Although many ballparks and venues broadcast the play-by-play over low-power FM at the venue, AM/FM high power OTA region-wide or via internet streaming, it's the AM-only teams and venues that causes a twist with BT wireless earbuds--- I can't find a small AM/FM radio that supports BT wireless headsets/earbuds. If there is one, I'm guessing it would cost more than this adapter.

With this Mii, I can put it in TX mode, plug it into the headphone jack of my SRF-59, stick the whole getup into my jacket pocket and I can listen to the play-by-play in my wireless earbuds from my seat in the stands.

I didn't have an issue pairing the adapter to my Tribit earbuds -- no dropouts-- and the Mii battery life holds through a 2-3.5 hour baseball game, including pre and post game. Just remember to charge the adapter after you've used it for the day.
