About this item
She tried to kill him, so he made her his wife.
Skadi first met her husband-to-be with blades in hand on the opposite side of a battle. She lost, and he claimed his prize.
To her horror, the king of the shadow elven agrees to marry her off to Jonas, a prince in the fae realms, as a way to unite their kingdoms against a shared enemy—the light elves. Skadi knows the marriage is nothing but a political game. Feelings won’t come into play.
Except her new husband makes not falling in love . . . challenging.
When new threats arise, Skadi must decide to either love her enemy, or keep him alive by betraying him to another.
Welcome to another installment in the Ever Seas world where pirates, fae, and elves collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a morally gray cinnamon roll and the broken princess who steals his heart.
*This book is a standalone with a guaranteed HEA, and can be read before The Ever King/Queen, but to see the full impact of their story, it’s recommended to read that duet first. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series, but can be read independently, and readers are encouraged to read the list of triggers inside.*

“Be gentle, be kind, and be nightmarish. I will want you every way.” - Skadi
First off…. I had no words for the longest time after finishing this book. After reading the Ever King/Queen duet there was such high hopes for the next book in the series.
Let me tell you, every single one was surpassed!
Skadi and Jonas have an amazing story and it was told beautifully. They are perfect for each other in the way they are playful, protective, caring, stubborn and dealing with their own darknesses. The bantering was key to opening Skadi up from the everything had had happened to her in the past. The family dynamic added to it because it helped her see that she was in the right place and eventually see she had finally gotten the family she deserved.
The spice scenes…. Well let’s just say. One tub two adults is always a great one.
"We all embraced our darkness long ago. It is home now."
This book is absolutely amazing!! From prologue to epilogue I was completely entranced. The writing is absolute perfection. If you have read her Broken Kingdom series then you will feel all the nostalgia from those books and it is absolutely beautiful. And even if you haven't it is still such a beautiful story with just enough spice, swoon, and blood thirstyness to satisfy all of your romantasy needs.
This story starts with an arranged marriage between Elven Princess Skadi, our mist thief, and Alver Prince Jonas, our nightmare prince. After Skadi almost claimed the life of Jonas' twin, she has no delusions to think she will be well received by her new family or that her husband will love her. But when she receives nothing but kindness from him and his family, she realizes maybe she could be happy here with him in Alver lands. She has been taught to be ashamed and afraid of the darkness inside her but Jonas wants it to come out and play with him. After time spent with her nightmare prince she quickly realizes she may be in trouble of losing the one thing she has guared her whole life, her heart.
Jonas should hate Skadi for almost killing his brother, but he just can't help but want to see the fire behind her dead eyes. Sander insists he holds no grudge towards Jonas' new bride and would love to be friends with his new sister in law. So maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to try to enjoy this marriage?
"We didn't feel there was a choice at the beginning, Skadi. But every day since, you've become the best choice I will ever make. I will never stop choosing you."
???? Arranged marriage
???? Cinnamon roll MMC
???? Slow burn
???? Shadow Magic
???? Enemies to lovers
???? Forced proximity
???? Found family
???? Who hurt you?
???? Touch her & ????
???? A lot of Wife.
Holy moly this book!! It was everything I hoped it to be. The nostalgia of bringing back so many of the characters from The Broken Kingdom series and watching them scheme, love, and fight together was incredible.
I always say reading one of LJ’s books is like watching a movie in your head. Especially the battles. They’re so vivid.
Jonas and Skadi’s story was beautifully written and when it ended, it felt complete. Sometimes stand-alones can leave you wanting more but this was perfect! With that being said - I do recommend at least reading The Ever King and The Ever Queen before diving into this one.
When that hooks you, go back and read The Broken Kingdoms series because it is one of my favorites and worth every minute of your time!

This book was so much fun! The banter was addition and the romance was positivity swoon-worthy! With lots of magic, darkness, fun heists, and sprinkles of danger I was captivated from the start!
I also loved the addition of previous characters from the world!
