5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little TMNT set for decent price

I was able to get this set for around $25, so that's about $6/figure. The Gecko and April are the same as the original 80s figures with new paint jobs, but the Turtles are repaints of the 2012 "Mirage" Turtles they released. Decent little set. They are based on the Archie comics versions, but I just wanted them to hang on the wall to display. If you were a collector back in the 80s, you will probably like these, and if they are still selling for $25, it's worth it, even if you are buying them for kids, they are pretty solid action figures. Good for the nostalgia and a pretty good price point.

I mainly bought this for April O'Neil, since I'm trying to collect the Playmates reissues of the original vintage line. But come to think of it, I'm not sure that this April is the one featured in the vintage (or if I even had the vintage April back in the day), but I think she looks good enough for my collection. Mondo Gecko is also an interesting one, although I'm not entirely familiar with him (I was into the show, toys, and video games in the late 80s but didn't keep up with the later characters and themes)

As for Leo and Raph, I really don't have a huge attachment to these particular variants, which I believe are based on the original comic designs, although I will admit that they look very cool! I am on the fence if I'm going to sell those two or keep them in the collection. They're definitely cool looking, but they don't have a huge nostalgic draw for me like the standard vintage-style ones do.

Add a little black wash paint to these turtles to make them pop like the comic! These sets drop to $30 or less. You can get two turtles to paint and make them pop as good as Neca or Mezco (minus the articulation) and save $15 to $80.

Comes in nice box that protects all four figures. Great value, can sometimes find cheaper than buying all four figures individually.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are pretty awful, but to who?...
Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2023
First of all, I don't know who this set is for.. Collectors? Kids?

The Turtles (Leo & Raph) are based off the 80's Mirage Comics Design with the colors of the 80's Cartoon. They are not the Original Toys, but April & Mondo Gecko are. They are painted well, but there's details on the skin left un-painted. the arm articulation is very weird. There's shoulder and elbow joints that also swivel, but the wrists don't swivel. The only way to display the weapons in cool stances is having their arms straight out in front of them. If you bend at the elbows, the weapons point in weird positions. Hips and knees have a swivel too. Necks on a ball joint. The elbow joints around the pins are discolored already with stress marks out of the box.

Leo's 2 swords are different! They are not the same length, blade and handle. It's very strange..

The April Figure is alright. It's the same mold as the 2nd version of the original toys. The yellow on her clothes are very opaque. And she has fish eyes. Whoever painted them must have been really tired or drunk.

The Mondo Gecko looks fine. (a friend of mine is taking him) He's the closest of the 4 who really resembles his original toy. The Skateboard is Purple which is different, and the tail is missing the blue paint detail. Then the skate on the tail hasn't been painted but that's not a surprise. He has the blue around the eyes that's missing on some of the original released toys.

I'm not sure who these are for. If it's collectors they would be getting them for nostalgia and these are a miss.. If they're for kids, the quality fits kid's toys, but these designs are way past what TMNT kids today are into. (there's been 8 Generations of toys and shows/movies past these designs) I feel like it's a miss with both.

For me, these are a huge pass. And if it wasn't for my friend taking Mondo Gecko I would sell or even try to return them.

I feel like a cat.. Where the box is cooler than what was inside..
