5.0 out of 5 stars The grump and the sunshine feels in this one!!!

Oh this book! It was so good! I love a good dose of hurt/comfort and these two men are both recovering mentally and physically from accidents that took their leg. This one also gives us the grump and the sunshine. Sergeant Grumpy and Point Break/Sunshine have some amazingly moving and sweet moments. Especially once Creek gets out of his own way and realizes what his feelings mean. I truly enjoyed this one which honestly should come as no surprise. EM Lindsey and Nora Phoenix are both amazing authors and this book was seriously superb!

This book is a wholesome story of healing, brotherhood, and found family. Point break and Sergeant Grumpy end up helping each other heal in ways they wouldn't have expected after their PT shenanigans. Love the cast of characters in this series and the respectful way tough topics are handled.

4.0 out of 5 stars good intro to series. strong characters.

For two main characters recovering from below-the-knee amputation, this is low angst and genuine. Characters have depth and humor. The found family of Army veterans are all supportive and silly, creating the best kind of brother dynamic.
I look forward to the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Men Finding Love

Creek, an Army officer wounded on active duty, and Heath, a bike-riding teacher, simply cannot get along when they're thrown together while having PT. They take pot shots at each other to the consternation of their doctor.

Nora Phoenix and E.M. Lindsey will leave you in tears with this heartfelt love story. These ladies are one-click authors for me; you can't go wrong with their books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic start to a new series.

This book grabbed me from the start and kept me invested. Two seemingly opposite men whose reaction is so strong that it is easiest to explain it as hate or at least strong dislike.

Creek is not doing well coming to terms with his new life minus one leg and his active duty Army career. He is bitter, angry, prickly, overwhelmed, determined, and fiercely independent. He has ties with his "brothers" but has never really been in a real relationship and has only hooked up with women. He has lost hope, his identity, and is unsure of what comes next in his future. It is easy to take out his annoyance and anger on the sunshiny amputee that he has to share time in physical therapy with.

Heath has a sunny disposition, a goofy grin, and a seemingly positive outlook. And he is farther ahead than Creek in his recovery and that just makes Creek want to compete with him more. He has had an easier time transitioning back to his career as a high school teacher and coach and makes no secret he is gay. But his happy facade also hides some deep personal pain, abandonment, trust, and self-worth issues.

From hating to be in the same room together to becoming irrationally obsessed with each other and not sure they like it, I enjoyed seeing them begin to look deeper at each other and find common ground. And their verbal reactions turn to strong, unexpected physical ones and to a connection neither of them ever expected. I loved these two together especially as they showed the cracks in their armor and allowed themselves to be vulnerable and begin to trust and feel.

This is an emotional, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, bi-awakening, hurt-comfort story about hope, trust, support, healing, featuring firsts, friendship, and found family. I enjoyed this whole group from Creek's housemates and former teammates Nash, Bean, and Tameron, his brother Forest, their PT Kent, and Heath's friends Kaleo and Zayd. I am looking forward to more in this series. As a therapist, I appreciated the fact that the authors did not make their recovery and medical problems easy or quick fixes and dealt honestly with the effort required, pain, and setbacks. It added depth and framework to the story, but their connection, healing, and ability to persevere and overcome made it truly shine. Their writing styles blended very well to craft this beautiful story of love and self-worth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creek & Heath

Loved this start to the series. Creek is going through the process of being medically discharged from the Army but is not ready for that part of his life to be over even as he battles negation with new challenges. Angry and frustrated, he takes it out on Heath, sunshine personified. Heath is beginning a new chapter as well, learning all over again how to live his life on his terms with his new challenge. Enjoyed all the characters in this book, hoping we get to know them more as the series continues. These two were made for each other. Creek eases into his new reality as bi as only a soldier could, it’s a testament to the support he has at home. Both Creek and Heath have wonderful support systems made up of found family.
