5.0 out of 5 stars Best mid-range binocular for the money!

If you want something for every day bird watching, distance viewing, or hunting from a blind, then this is a great choice! A deck or window with a big wide hillside view is the perfect place for the Nikon A211 10x50 binocular.

For me, it's a little bit bigger than I'd want to carry while hiking or hunting, but that bulkiness also provides a clear and reasonably bright image compared to many other binoculars in this price range. It's a full size frame, and probably wouldn't survive a fall more than a few feet. As with all binoculars, those long objective lens housings are famous for getting knocked out of alignment. For walking and active watching or spotting, it would certainly be better to go with a compact binocular. If you do carry these, a neck strap or a chest pack would be the way to go. A wrist strap would get heavy and the bulky size would become an issue.

The optics are bright and clear. The edges of the image are not clouded or fish bowl distorted like cheaper binoculars. The distance focusing is better than expected at this price range, and I'd recommend these as a standard for daytime viewing. The clarity and image color might not make the hair on your neck stand up, but if you've never used an extremely high quality binocular, these might give you the shivers. lol..

A true 10 power binocular of this quality, is well worth $120-$150 to a serious user, especially if you're using them according to their intended purpose. You would pay a lot more for this quality of image with other brand names. Though 10 power can be handheld, it's about the upper limit of a handheld. A tripod notably improves image stabilization at 10x. As a rule I don't like trying to hold anything over 10 power in my hands, so that makes the Nikon A211 10x50 binocular my number one recommendation, for best all-around daily use, and for people with steady hands.

I am comparing these binoculars to two pairs of Bausch and Lombs ( Discoverer) plus several Leica high end camera lenses I use on a 47MP camera. I have used Leica and Steiner binoculars and optically these are a 7 compared to the 2-5K$ versions. Sharpness is excellent, along with very good contrast and accurate balanced color. These do not pop in color and sharpness ( 3 D effect) like $5000 binoculars, however, they equal the high end 30 year old versions of many of the top manufacturers. Build quality is VG and design is also practical. Do not expect the detail workmanship or precision movement of top binoculars but they are more than functional. Without abuse and with protection from dampness there is no reason they should not last 20 years+. Overall very happy for the money and they function as my backup pair of binoculars. P.S. the rubber eye-cups each have 4 click positions that make a positive difference when set properly for your eyes. Tripod mount for moon views is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for night sky observing, quality optics, a must have.

I have observed stars, solar system planets, constellations and star clusters and the Andromeda galaxy with this set from Nikon. I highly recommend this for night sky views as the optics are good and the set lasts well. Using binoculars is an easy way to start for amateur astronomy. You will learn constellations and star hopping in a user friendly way. I have used mine for over one year and they function well like the first day. There are books your local club can suggest for you and star maps you can utilize. A phone app like Sky Safari, Stellarium or the free version of SkyGuide is required to find / confirm the object you are looking at. You will need a zero gravity chair to fully recline and maximize the functionality of these binos.
I also got the 20X80 set of binoculars (from Orion) and they are just amazing. You will see a lot of detail in constellations and star clusters. The first week I used that set, my mind was full of stars and star clusters I have seen that week. You will see many double / multi star systems in a very short time. This is probably my favorite set as the magnification and objective size are perfect and reach the limit for hand held weight.

These two sets of binoculars will let you learn the night sky for a while before you even need a telescope. Once you are ready for a telescope, you can choose one a step above the beginner level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressed with the quality of the optics

Compared to cheaper binoculars the quality of the optics of this one is noticed

I cannot compare to more expensive ones but with lot cheaper with same magnification and little more cheap with similar magnification these are clearly superior and not too expensive

Subtracted a star because they appear to be delicate, but optics wise a solid option

Its cost is on the high end but it is worth the cost. Offer the best magnification and POV. When in high mag, you probably want to use tripod I believe you can buy separately
