Get this one for your DIY project. I used two of them to lock out a cheap, sticking suspension fork on a bicycle. They look like just a normal part of the bike. Worked perfectly.

I opened up the ID of these on my lathe to fit a different shaft diameter and they cut pretty easily. I did not have any problems with stripped threads but I can see how that could happen. Good price though but I wouldn't trust them on typical applications.

I am an older man with some disabilities and use a stool meant for use in the shower. It is adjustable for height but would, when wet slip down past the buttons used to lower or raise the stool. I used the split collars around the legs to keep the stool from being able to suddenly drop down and upsetting my balance. Just one of the many uses for these collars. Not just for industrial purposes bur any time you need to hold something round in place!

I saw these installed on the saddle bag guards on the instructor's motorcycle while taking Ride Like A Pro-Maryland, as he demonstrated how to properly pickup a 900+ pound motorcycle. During the class, he purposely dropped the bike for a class demonstration. As the bike was tossed to the ground, I noticed that the instructor had these collars installed protecting the e saddle bag guards (I also ordered the 1" for the engine guards). Since installed, I've had many bikers ask what are they, and what are they for? I give credit where credit is due, I refer them to ride like a pro Maryland Facebook page where you can hear it from a pro, too include pictures for proper install.
