This was a fast paced fun and spicy read. The author tells you from the jump, look this isn't meant to be some plot heavy deep read, this is a fast paced ROMANCE with morally grey characters and actions, and that is exactly what she gave. This was one of the few times the MMC was unhinged but in the most acceptable way. He was utterly devoted to the happiness and love of his mate and truly would destroy the world for any wrong it did to her. I absolutely loved kicking my little feet reading his huge jumps from adoration to horniness to I will kill them all attitude. Even for this being a fast paced book, I loved that the author still gave the FMC common sense and she was rightly apprehensive and didn't just immediately accept everything. Granted she didn't have to think long and hard but the author still made her think before just accepting. Look this was a great Romantasy with a morally grey spicy man and a girl who gets the fairy tale but also has her own attitude. It is exactly what the author said in her dedication pages.

"I don't need a line to know what is considered good or bad, but if I did, there isn't a line I wouldn't cross for you."
Rennick:
When Rennick was thirteen, the gods bestowed upon him the name of his fated mate--a human girl. As the sole heir to the Mountain Kingdom, magic bound him to his kingdom until he ascended the throne on his twenty-fifth birthday, and as a human, she couldn't cross the magical barrier separating the humans from the fae. Heartsore and consumed with thoughts of her, he did the only thing he could and sent her anonymous letters and gifts…
Until he crossed the barrier into her kingdom to claim her as his own.
Amelia:
Six months after Amelia's thirteenth birthday, she received a strange letter from a fae boy claiming her as his mate. Humans weren't taught much about the fae, and one look at the horrifying doll meant to be her belated birthday gift solidified her suspicions that someone was playing a cruel joke. Except the letters and odd gifts kept coming. Against her better judgment, Amelia fell in love with her mysterious admirer throughout the years, certain they would never meet. But on her twenty-fifth birthday, her walk to work was interrupted by two familiar words she'd read a million times.
"Hello, love."
PLEASE NOTE: The male main character is obsessed with his mate and does a few morally black things to those he deems a threat to his relationship. There are no shades of grey.
Book one in an interconnected standalone in the Fae Kings of Eden series. While the books do not have to be read in order, it is recommended.
The couple has minor obstacles, but there is no miscommunication, no third act breakup, and no cheating.
Not suitable for those under 18. TW can be found inside the book or on the author's website.

SEE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE READING:Viciously Yours is a new adult fantasy romance. It is fast-paced and focuses solely on the relationship between the two main characters. This is a ROMANCE book in a traditional fantasy setting with minimal world building. There is no overarching fantasy plot. Example: Rebels attack the kingdoms, but there is no story as to why because it's part of the world building, not the plot. If you're thinking, "There's no way someone could write a fantasy book without much of a plot," you're wrong. I can, and I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars RomCom vibes
This book is literally a romcom set in a fae world. It has humor, spice, drama, morally black moments from BOTH of the main characters, surprising twists and turns, secrets, hidden identities, letter writing, cute yet fierce animal familiars, and a super sweet ending. It was the perfect balance of romance and fantasy!

*****Spoilers*****
Amelia is the mate of fae King Rennick. Royal fae hear the name of their mates on their 13th birthdays and their families try to find their mate to protect them. This is especially important to Rennick because rebels attacked and killed his mother in the palace garden. Rennick's father eventually finds Amelia in the human realm, but he's unable to leave his fae kingdom until he's 25 because his magical bonds to the land would be severed if he did. Amelia is an orphan, she was dropped off shortly after birth and doesn't know her family. When Rennick's father finds Amelia, Rennick starts sending her letters regularly that his friend Finn delivers for him, and never misses sending her a letter on her birthday. Rennick signs his letters Nick and often sends Amelia gifts with the advice of his other friend Ora. Gifts that Amelia doesn't like but keeps anyway because they came from Nick. Although originally disappointed in his fae familiar because he wanted something for fearsome, Rennick uses his fae familiar which is an owl to get a visual of Amelia since he can't cross to the human realm. He also uses his familiar to watch over Amelia regularly.
Once he turns 25 though, Rennick travels to the human village to collect Amelia with his friend Finn. However, Amelia has seen through Finn's glamour a couple of times when he's dropped off letters so she mistakes Nick for Finn initially. This causes some jealousy from Rennick and a couple of issues between them as they move to the fae kingdom but nothing too difficult to overcome. I thought it was puzzling how Rennick was upset that Amelia called out Nick during one of their intimate times and how upset Rennick was for it. Yeah, she may have associated the name with Finn in her fantasies, but given it was the name he signed his letters with I didn't understand why he was so hurt. In any case, once Amelia makes it to the kingdom, Rennick still tries to protect her Identity by saying she's a friend so when Ora starts claiming that Rennick is her mate, it causes more petty issues. Amelia handles some of it poorly at first but I got immense satisfaction at the hand Amelia played at the dinner where Ora took things a bit too far in her attempts to assert her position with Rennick. I will say that once Ora went so far as to try and force a marriage with Rennick she was desperate and way out of line, but I couldn't buy Amelia's sudden aggressiveness resulting in her murdering Ora. Fae aside, she had just cried not even 30 minutes prior about the prospect of killing an animal while hunting. In any case, we get lots of revelations about Amelia who is actually fae and twin to another fae King, she was left in the human realm by her mother shortly after her birth to save her life from their father who had previously threatened to kill a daughter. Usually fae royal couples only have one child, she's the exception. Her friend she had at the orphanage was also a fae that her twin brother sent to Amelia for protection who is also her brother's mate, and the maid Amelia met and liked was another fae king's mate. At the end of the book, all couples have children and seem to be living in harmony.
It was a really good premise and the writing was good. I found myself impatient for Amelia and Rennick to meet which I think they do about 27% of the way in. Until then it's correspondence through letters and glimpses of their lives leading up to birthday 25. Once Amelia and Rennick meet in person, there are a few bumps as they learn who the other really is, especially for Amelia since she has to learn more about the fae. Speaking of, I think it could've used more of the magical aspects in the book and I was dissatisfied with the explanation provided as to the why behind the rebel attacks, it felt too pedestrian for a cause to overthrow a functioning system when the fae are not mistreated in some way. Generally, the book was cute but it also felt like surface level because nothing really got very deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly As Advertised
This book was so much fun. No plot, all vibes. And the vibes are immaculate.
The author is clear in her note at the beginning that this is supposed to just be a fun little smutty ride. No overarching plot, no villain, no twists, just a spicy romantasy with a little humor and love sprinkled in. And she delivers exactly that.
5 stars, no notes.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love a book that meets expectations to the tee…
I’ve followed Jamie Applegate Hunter for a couple of years, and I’ve always been meaning to get to reading a book of hers. Her marketing for Visciously Yours totally got me - she said it was to the point, would break a book slump and that the plot only existed to bring the two main characters together.
Well, yep.

???? ????????????????????: Fantasy romance
???? ????????????????????????: Letter writing, morally gray, rags-to-riches, touch her and die.
???? ????????????????????????????????: Rennick, a fae king, knows Amelia is his mate, but can’t leave his kingdom until he turns 25. As he waits, he sends letters and watches her until it’s time to claim his bride.
???? ????????????????????????: I kind of feel like JAH downplayed this book a little too much, because I honestly loved it.
It’s such a change of pace, to read a 270 page standalone fantasy romance. Take out the pages of world building. Take out all of the nuance. Just give the reader the benefit of the doubt and let the romance fly.
What you get is a hopelessly romantic romantasy that’s perfect for us girlies who like a heavy-handed morally gray hero. You get solid spice, and some actual fun, which I find is so lacking in romantasy sometimes.
In a genre that takes itself way too seriously sometimes, this was a breathof fresh air.
