About this item
A small-town, single dad, enemies-to-lovers standalone sports romance in the new series, The Single Dad Playbook, from USA Today Bestselling author Willow Aster
He's a quarterback, a single dad, and now he's my roommate…
For a long time now, I’ve despised Weston Shaw. He’d been someone I’d admired, taking my favorite football team, the Colorado Mustangs, to the Super Bowl.
But that all turned upside down after one night that had nothing to do with me.
We share one undeniable connection: his son, Caleb.
Unfortunately, the circumstances behind that have never been my story to tell.
But now, the truth is out, and I’m left to deal with the consequences.
I’m living under the same roof as Weston, and each day, I discover a side of him I never expected.
He’s not the selfish jock I imagined. He’s caring, thoughtful, and unexpectedly charming.
I find myself drawn to him in ways I never thought possible. It’s terrifying and exhilarating, but I can't deny it any longer…
I’m falling for the one person I shouldn’t…Weston Shaw.
Mad Love is book one in The Single Dad Playbook series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

‘Mad love’ is the first story in the new series ‘The single dad playbook’. Although there were a few emotional scenes, the story itself had a light undertone with also a few funny moments.
This story is about 26 year old Weston Shaw, a football player and single. His life changes forever the day he receives a phone call revealing that he has a two month old son Caleb. His son’s mother Sasha died in a car accident and now he’s responsible for a baby. Something he has no experience with!
At the hospital he meets Sasha’s sister Sadie, who thinks he wants nothing to do with her nephew, so their first meeting doesn’t go well. Both Weston and Sadie want the best for little Caleb, so they agree to care for the little boy together. It isn’t easy at first, but over time, they discover that they have a lot in common and feelings grow. But that’s dangerous because what happens if things go wrong?! Can they still be friends and live together and take care of Caleb? There’s a lot at stake and there’s also the press. They are curious and everywhere. They aren’t really nice in their articles. If Weston and Sadie want to have a real chance at being together, they will have to be honest about their feelings and trust each other.
This is the second story I have read by the author Willow Aster and once again I thought it was a good story. We got both POV’s, I was glad about that. The main characters Weston and Sadie met in the saddest of circumstances and were both in shock (Weston because he discovered he has a two month old son and Sadie because her sister Sasha died in a car accident). And even though emotions ran high and both were distrustful of the other, Weston did his best to do right by everyone. I thought that was very thoughtful and generous of him. He understood that Sasha’s family also wanted to help raise Caleb and although he and Sadie start the new adventure with distrust and doubts, they want the best for Caleb. Sadie and Weston were great characters. They were perfect for each other, they helped each other with Caleb, they were honest about their feelings and their fears. They supported each other in many ways. Luckily, they also got a lot of support from their family. Sadie’s parents and Weston’s parents and his youngest sister Felicity.
Weston wasn’t the only single dad in the football team, a few other players had children too. There was Henly, Rhodes, Bowie and Penn (who wasn’t a dad but he was a good friend). The men often met in a cozy café to talk about their children and to give each other advice and support. But they also liked to tease each other during the meeting and via messages. Their messages in the text group were really funny and they made me laugh a few times. They were hilarious.
The story was a mixture of emotional, light and funny. It had a good balance between the three. It was easy to read and It was wonderful to watch Weston and Sadie’s relationship grow. There were a few obstacles before Weston and Sadie got their HEA. Like the fact that Weston had a child with Sadie’s sister but the author did a great job of dealing with this sensitive subject in a way that make it all good. I really loved how Weston and his sister Felicity supported Sadie when the press wrote not so nice things about her. And Sadie supported Weston with this football carrier. There were a few steamy sex scenes in the story and at the end you get the chance to receive a bonus scene.
This is a football sport romance story but if you’re looking for a sport romance story that talks a lot about the sport, this story isn’t for you. The sport is talked about, but not in deep detail. The focus is more on the personal relationships.
‘Mad love’ is a great start to a new series. I look forward to the next story in this series.
Weston learns he is a father on the day his son’s mother passed away. Being a professional quarterback didn’t prepare him for fatherhood and to raise Caleb. Sadie has always disliked Weston, thinking he abandoned her sister. She is shocked when he asks her to move in and help him raise Caleb. Living under the same roof, they discover things about the past and each other. They never expected to have a connection, let alone that the simmering attraction between them might grow into more.
While this story does tackle some hard topics, Willow balanced things out with the guys of the SDC, the humor of parenting from the group male POV, and the banter between the guy group and also the MCs added the perfect fun and lightness. If I was asked what could have been done better, I'm not sure I could name anything. For me, this was a perfect light read. It had tension and emotion, humor and heart, and sucked me in and swept me away from reality. I will be keeping my eye out for the next release in this series.
