About this item

A standalone age-gap, dad's best friend's hockey romance.

Hollis Hendrix. Cat Dad. Hockey Player. Tattooed grump.

Love? Longing? I’m familiar with them. All because of my dad’s best friend.
I know better than to lust after Hollis.

First, he’s a decade older than me.
Second, my dad would absolutely lose it—I’m forbidden from dating his teammates.
Third, I just did something I can’t undo and Hollis knows.

So if you’re looking for me, I’m the woman at the pancake house trying not to make it weird.
But when Hollis calls me Princess with gruff longing, I wonder if maybe I’m not so alone in my feelings.

I put everyone else first. Except this time, I’m going to go after exactly what I want.
Him.

*This is Peggy Aurora "Hammer" Hammerstein and Hollis Hendrix's standalone novel. If you want to meet Hollis and Hammer before you read this book, check out If You Hate Me, Rix and Tristan's story.

    5???? 2.5????️

I am so happy to be back with this cast of characters. I love and missed them all so much! The way that I was literally salivating for Aurora and Hollis’s book after I finished If You Hate Me (Tristan & Rix’s book).. was honestly borderline concerning. ????

Now that it’s here and I have devoured it, I’m sad it’s over ???? I just wanted their story to go for forever and ever. ♾️

Hollis Hendrix. Hockey player, cat daddy to Postie and Malone, and Hammer’s dad’s best friend! Not to mention teammate.. ????

Peggy Aurora Hammerstein. Lover of banana ducks, has a heart of gold, has had a crush on her dad’s best friend/teammate since she was a teen.. ????

This book had me going through a rollercoaster of emotions. From giddiness, to dread. ???? From pure happiness, to feelings of sadness. ???? From thigh shaking, to earth shattering.. ???? but no feeling compared to the delicious tension between these two characters. It had me clenching my teeth, gripping the sheets, and curling my toes. ???? Such a satisfying buildup, with the perfect amount of “oops, we almost got busted”. Those moments had my stomach dropping out of my butt. ????

I really enjoyed Hammer and Hollis’s story so so much. It was forbidden, funny, sweet, and spicy. ????????

Stella Bloom and Zachary Webber narrated the audiobook, and really they were just the cherry on the top of this perfect sweet baby of a book. ???????????????????????? I loved their performances and their embodiment of Aurora and Hollis! They did such a good job on the narration. ????

If you’re a fan of hockey romances and have a taste for forbidden romances, then this book and this series is for you. I highly recommend it!!

    Tropes:
    ???? hockey romance
    ???? dad’s best friend
    ???? age gap (12 years)
    ???? she falls first
    ???? he falls harder
    ???? forced proximity

Aurora is about to turn 21 and complete college. Daughter of professional hockey goalie Roman, she's crushed on his older teammate Hollis for years. (There's a 12 year age gap.) Hollis is also Dad's best friend. Something has changed in the past year. She's been working in the team's public relations office and crushing it professionally. After Hollis injured his knee, she cared for and listened to him. Aurora is ready to move forward with a relationship but Hollis is conflicted with guilt. He's worried about betraying his friend's trust and about limiting Aurora's future opportunities. But, he can't resist her pull.

Hollis is a very frustrating character. He runs very hot and cold and sends Aurora mixed signals as he struggles with his desire and his guilt. At the same time, you can understand why Aurora finds him so attractive. Aurora is very close to her father. At the same time, she's struggling to be seen as independent and grown up - by both Roman and Hollis.

Told with alternating points of view. Some mild other woman drama. No cheating. Some hockey action. It can be read as a standalone; characters from the first book in the series appear and references are made to that plotline.

I’m especially partial to age-gap tropes in which Hunting challenges to a tee. To take matters further, the heroine’s dad has an exceptionally tight friendship with the hero she’s secretly been crushing on for the longest time. The tension build-up is a killer, making me read If You Want Me so fast that I had to slow down. But then I switched to the audio, meaning I could enjoy the narrators’ cadences at a more agreeable pace. Zachary Webber and Stellar Bloom make swoon-worthy hang-onto-every-word magic together, so if you can, listen to them.

I’d met the goalie Roman Hammerstein’s daughter, Peggy Aurora, in If You Need Me; however, getting to know her better was an absolute delight. Being career-driven and concerned for her future doesn’t hold her back from the few small pleasures in life. Always willing to please, she looks after the gorgeous hockey player, Hollis’ feline fur babes during his team’s away games. LOL! It wasn’t a case of ‘while the cat’s away’ because they’re noticeably in the foreground but on those lines. If Bloom’s suggestive if not embarrassing tone got me chuckling to myself in chapter one, Webber’s pitch-perfect narrating had me cracking up in chapter three!

I connected with Hollis in leaps and bounds, especially after learning about his own issues. But suddenly, he sees Aurora whom he’s friends with has grown into an amazing and beautiful young woman, so listening to his conflicted feelings aroused my sympathy for this highly respected guy. More than aware that Roman dotes on his daughter; how the team where she’d done an internship successfully and is working hard to get a permanent job with The Toronto Terror admin treat her like their princess, it’s easy to see why he’s in such a dilemma.

As details of Hollis and Aurora’s story were gradually revealed, I often wished I could’ve jumped into the book and had a tête-à-tête with them. You see, Hunting’s storytelling not only evokes all the emotions in this slow-burn romance which happens to be right up my alley but also entwines originality into laugh-your-socks-off moments.

Finding out what the BABrigade was up to, listening to their messages, the quirky banter and feeling like I was with the gals in their spontaneous get-togethers was something else. I loved the family and brotherhood dynamics, team camaraderie and the fun extras Hunting weaved into the story. Enjoy friends-to-lovers, off-limits age-gap romance? Then don’t miss out and get your one-click finger ready!

Not a fan of dads best friend trope so this was a bit of a struggle for me. Age gap was ok just cringe at the dads friend thing
