5.0 out of 5 stars Great Induction Stovetop
Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2023
This was an excellent replacement for my worn out electric stovetop. I had not used induction before and did a lot of research prior to purchasing. I prefer gas stovetops over electric any day of the week because you have more control over the heat. An induction is a much better way to go if you can't have gas. The control is precise and almost instant. The great thing about this type of cook top is that it heats your pans (cooking medium) through an electromagnetic energy that interacts directly with your pans. No heating elements and heat on the stovetop. The controls are easy to use and I found them to be intuitive. This is a very good intermediate stove when compared to other induction cook tops and probably the best manufacturer at this time for this level of cook top. The price range is perfect for those who don't want to spend a few thousand on an induction. During my research i found that there are induction units that will just blow your socks off and are just as every bit as functional as gas and then there were units that were just at the "yugo" range and barely worth the time to consider. Empava found an unaddressed market and have made a great intermediate induction stove top. This one has bridge controls, and boost options which make it nice when using a large griddle or wanting to boil water in less than 5 minutes. If your looking into a new electric stove top I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone. Great unit, great price, great functioning for it's class.

5.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.

I'm giving 5 stars because it does what it claims, if I had paid what is typical for induction it would be 3.

To start - you get what you pay for. It's a cheap induction that functions really well. It's a bit smaller than typical electric cooktop untis so if you have granite and your switching to this be prepared to do some upgrades. What I did was install 1/4" flat stock steel plates on 2 sides of my existing opening and held them in place with 4400 psi epoxy.

After that the unit fit in perfectly and I caulked it in place to make sure it was snug and didn't move. They tell you to not caulk the unit as it needs to be removalable for service but I guess they don't know what a razor is and how easily it can be removed.

It takes 10 minutes to boil 1 gallon of water in a large stock pot. Each coil is exactly the same size regardless of what burner you use which is a bit frustrating. The only difference between the burners is amount of power that can be allocated to each.

Cast iron is your friend in this instance and if you want to have the entire surface of a 12" cast iron pan hot you'll need to use boost for a few minutes then lower the temp to allow the heat to disperse to the entire pan.

This is not normal.. I have a high end bertazzoni and each coil is designed for the specific burner. Once again you get what you pay for.

I'm not sure if this is normal but our unit has a slight hot electronics smell when cooking. Maybe this is because it's been installed less than 24 hours but it's enough to be slightly alarming. I have a full open cabinet beneath and tons of ventilation so I know it's nothing to do with that.

If this is your first induction range be prepared for a learning curve and a small investment of higher end cookware. The following work really well..
Cast iron
All-clad
Carbon steel

The following suck
Cheaply made metal alloys.

The following won't work
Aluminum
Glass cookware

You'll save a bit on power but not how you think.. induction units use the same wattage as traditional electric ranges but it takes a lot less time to heat up. Which is another thing.. your cooking habits will change. No more start the pan and then start chopping up whatever your cooking. Now you'll prep before turning the pan on.. hence the 20% of power savings most induction ranges claim.

Be ready for the noise. Most inductions (my bertazzoni excluded) make a hum/hiss noise when cooking. This is from the reaction of the metal cookware itself. Some higher end ranges have figured out how to minimize this but this range makes no attempt to. You can reduce it yourself by using cast iron.. the heavier the better..

4.0 out of 5 stars Induction or Electric? THAT is the question...Hmmmm

The Empava looks nice and was easy to install. Great value...I guess. It's quite different than my electric cooktop and is taking me some getting used to. I've never cooked in an INDUCTION cooktop before this so I don't know if some of the characteristics it has are typical or specific to this brand. There is a humming noise that it makes when the "burners" are on which is very odd in the beginning. If you like to wipe down your cooktop as you go, this gets annoying because you have to be careful that you don't keep shutting it off while your cooking. I kinda miss being able to just wipe away on my old cooktop with knobs. Induction cooking is fast...water boils almost instantly for example. You must use induction friendly pots and pans though. Also, this unit has a built in timer which can be convenient.

Hey, it cooks the food (shoulder shrug). I think it was a pretty good value but it's only been around 6 weeks so I will update this review if there's anything else I find is worth sharing ,)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, what a difference!

I bought this to replace a stovetop that suddenly stopped working and had no idea about Induction heating. It was easy to install but I chickened out and hired an electrician to hook it up for me. When we attempted to turn it on the first time, nothing happened! The Electrician told us it was faulty and I should send it back.
I was so disappointed because its a beautiful unit and the price was such a good deal!
I sat down and read the manual that came with the unit and thats when I discovered it was not the same type of stovetop that I had before. This stovetop heats ONLY metal pans that are magnetic. It will not turn on without a metal bottomed pan on the burner.
Somehow the magnetic properties transfer heat super fast into the correct type of pan and water boils in seconds! When the pan is removed from the burner, it turns off instantly.
What amazes me is there is very little residual heat on the unit that was red hot seconds before!
This may be my favorite appliance in my entire house now and I am so happy that I did not return it when my Electrician told me it did not work.
I would buy this item again and again its amazing!!
*One thing I noticed is the included manual needs to sent to a better English proofreader by the items manufacturers. There are several hilarious errors in the grammar that should have been caught before the manual was printed and distributed.*
I still love this cooktop and recommend it to everyone.
