1.0 out of 5 stars Dead after about 30 minutes

I replaced an older 24 port switch with this new TL-SG116E switch. Had it all set up and connected and all looked great. But when I was done I decided to move the power brick from one spot on the power strip to another spot. The switch never came back up. Tried everything but all I got was a green power light. I'm returning it the next day after receiving it for another one. Hopefully I just got a bad one and the next one will work great. I'll give an update on the second unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely took down our Network Infrastructure - DO NOT BUY!!!

Not even 2 months having this TP Link 48 Port Unmanaged Switched and completely took down my network infrastructure causing an outtage of over 8 hours on a busy work day! An unmanaged switch is just supposed to work but apparently it's a ticking time bomb before it takes down your network making you scramble to find consultants, talk to employees over the phone, or have you drop everything to come to the office and troubleshoot a piece of crapware. Just to be sure, I took it out of the network to run tests and it would just freeze or not even auto negotiate traffic. So words of wisdom, cheap doesnt always mean good and i wish i could return the TP Switch but it so happens i'm 7 days past the return window!!! It's like my switch knew to die right after the return window passed... DO NOT BUY!

1.0 out of 5 stars simple and works great

I got one DOA but the replacement is working fine.

I like the metal construction, but I wish the power connector was on the same side as the Ethernet ports. As it is there are cables on BOTH sides of it.

UPDATE 1. After a couple of days, the switch slowed down to about 100mbps for some reason. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the speeds went back to normal. Disappointing. Perhaps I got a bad switch a second time?

UPDATE 2. Definitely it slows down to 100 mbps and it requires a reboot every couple of days or so.

UPDATE 3. Replaced the replacement, but the issue persists: it works fine for a little while, it could be a couple of hours or a couple of days, and then it slows down to 100mbps. So no idea what is going on.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a few months
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2024
I needed a switch to connect my main router to a second router in my shop. It worked great for a few months and all of the sudden I completely lost wifi in my house. After some troubleshooting I found the culprit. Disconnected the Ethernet cable from it and BAM! Wifi was back. Hooked it up a couple times since just to check but got the same result. No Wifi.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective by design

I bought a few of those, but same issues are on all. Not supporting IGMP, general slow down when multicast is streamed. Doesn't Abe to reach the gigabit at any scenario.
Avoid. It is a waste of your money.
I have reached the support for the igmp issue (which is in the spec) - the answer was "why do you need igmp?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great managed switch

I needed a bigger switch since I'm using 2 ports for my LAG link, so the old 5 port switch didn't have enough ports for other stuff there. This switch is easy to set up. Love the UI from the management utility, makes it easier to check my VLAN config. It's been working without a fuss, and stays cool as well.

This switch caused my clients network to barley function. Internet was slow, they had dropped packets with ping tests and users who worked remotely were routinely disconnected. Once I replaced the switch with a different Netgear model, everything was good again. I was fooled by all the good reviews here and did not notice that many of the reviews listed were actually for other model's and I wished I had looked at the reviews over at a competitor's website as there are only 2 for this switch and they both said it's junk and I agree with them after my experience.
