About this item

Viva Las Vengeance

All Bob Hoon ever wanted was a good whisky, and some peace and quiet.

But, when Hoon hears that his friend and MI5 agent, Miles Crabtree, has gone missing in the United States, he is dragged back into action once more.

The hunt leads him to the Florida Everglades, and into conflict with the violent locals, the terrifying wildlife, and a Sheriff with a sinister agenda of his own.

Carving a trail of destruction across America, Hoon crosses swords with a washed-out, Elvis-themed P.I. who might be his only chance of not only saving his friend, but of foiling a twisted conspiracy that could lead to the deaths of millions.

From the Highlands of Scotland, through the steamy dive bars of Florida, to the dazzling neon nightmare of Vegas, Hoon’s quest for justice will expose the rotten underbelly of the American Dream.

And he might just cause a major international incident along the way.

Stateside is the fifth book in the Robert Hoon Thrillers series by internationally bestselling author, JD Kirk. If you ever thought Jack Reacher should be Scottish and swear more often, this is the series for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!

I have to confess I was a bit hesitant to buy this Hoon book, because as much as I love the character, I prefer my books to be set in the UK. I am glad I took the plunge though as I enjoyed every hilarious page. Bob's creative swearing never fails to crack me up and I love Iris and Berta. The scenes in the "themed restaurant" had me howling with laughter. Beneath all the humour though, there is humanity and that's what I love about these books too. Keep them coming JD Kirk, because I'll keep reading!

Tore my way through this latest Robert Hoon adventure and hoping for many many more! Our tell-it-like-it-is hero finds himself in the USA and Las Vegas of all places and rocks the King's world from the glitz to the murky underside where he thrives. It's unputdownable, wishtherewasmore kind of stuff from Mr. Kirk. And I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Profane Prose

Reaches its pinnacle in Kirk’s Bob Hoon. From his inception in the DCI Jack Logan series, to his own five book (and counting, I hope) romp through a wealth of bad guys, he has no equal. I stem from the Clan Munro, and it’s my belief that the art of cursing is best done by the Scots - and the king of them all is Hoon. All that said, Kirkis an absolute master of snappy repartee and lush scene settings. Read them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book

Even though this is a fast paced thriller, I always smile and laugh thru almost every chapter, as Hoon and his sister and Iris are hilarious. I never thought anyone could swear more than my uncle, but Bob Hoon can come up with more words in never ending sentences that I never thought possible! Looking forward to reading the next Hoon book and see where and what he's up to!

Another Bob Hoon spectacular that I INHALED in one sitting, because it is just so. damn. good. The characters, the dialog, the story, everything, just fantastic. I am 55 years old, so Mr. Kirk, you had better steel yourself that you need to keep ALL your series coming for a long bit. Or I will send Bob to insult you in amazing ways.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best work

Heavy on the humor, but the storyline was a bit too far-fetched. My introduction to JD Kirk was through Hoon, but I quickly found that I enjoyed the Logan books much more. This book simply confirms that position for me. Certainly there were times I laughed out loud while reading this book, but the overall story wasn’t the best.

I have never laugh so hard or enjoyed so much reading about Robert Hoons
Outlook on society. Yes he's not always politically correct & yes he talks like a
Drunken sailor of old but ya gotta love his devotion to seeing to the needs of those in difficult situations.
I would highly recommend this series

JD Kirk please continue your wonderful ability to show us there is still hope for the good guys

5.0 out of 5 stars Hoon vs The US - hardly seems like a fair fight.
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024
Hoon vs US. Hardly seems like a fair fight. Hoon with a supporting cast take on the Loop. The cultural US stereotypes are frankly a hoot (and I live here). Florida, all too easily, is a blast and what happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas. Read and laugh (note there are plenty of flawed and warped people on Hoon’s journey and so many deaths). Don’t ask Hoon if he is English as things could go south pretty quickly.
