I’ve been a fan of Sandra Brown for years, and this one definitely did not disappoint! What an engaging suspense tale!
The book follows through on characters introduced in her last book, Blood Moon. I enjoyed that part because I liked John Bowie and his wife Beth. Currently Mitch Haskell, John’s detective, is trying to solve the case of his wife’s murder, attributed by him to a drug lord named Oz and his right hand man, Roland Malone. He doesn’t know who Oz actually is, but he’s getting closer—-then he has a meltdown and John Bowie orders mandated psychotherapy. From a provided list, Mitch selects Dr Dylan Reede, and fireworks begin.
Dylan was every bit as interesting as Mitch in this book, and the entire story kept me captivated throughout, to the point that I was looking forward to when I could pick it up again.
Great work by a seasoned author! I highly recommend!
Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received a copy of the digital ARC via the publisher, the author, and NetGalley. My review is voluntary. - carvanzWonderful mix of emotions and dangerOhhh this one took me back to why Sandra Brown used to be a one click buy for me. This was pure old-school romantic suspense, moody, dramatic, and a little unhinged. Once it got its hooks in me, it did not let go. I loved the atmosphere, the sense of danger, and that constant “something is very wrong here” feeling. It was simmering under every interaction. It was twisty without being confusing, intense without being exhausting, and absolutely soaked in tension.
I really liked the emotional pull mixed with the mystery. The relationships were messy, and although the motivations weren’t always clean, that just made everything feel more real and gripping. It had the perfect blend of obsession, secrets, and simmering attraction that kept me turning the pages long past my “go to bed now or I’ll be a zombie tomorrow” time. Was it dark? To a certain degree. A little dramatic? Definitely. But if you like your suspense with sharp edges and emotional bite, this one delivers, and then some. - Lynn Brooks/Thoughts of a BlondeHard to put down!4 1/2 STARS!
Action packed and heartfelt! I was quickly hooked as we are thrust into Detective Mitch Haskell's life of him still trying to pick up the pieces after his wife's death. The book was a little unorthodox as it let us in on some tidbits of what really happened and of the inner workings of one of the perpetrators right from the start and throughout the majority of the book instead of keeping us totally in the dark as is often the case. It was interesting and added angst to the story. I was intrigued from start to finish and felt like the characters were attention grabbing and the plot set up well. I felt like his friendship with John added a lot to the story and made him feel approachable. I wanted a bit more at the end where it felt abrupt and up in the air a bit, but overall really enjoyed the book. - Lisa ZHeartbreaker with plenty of twists and turnsI’ve read every book by Ms. Brown since the early 1990s and enjoyed each and every one. I have many favorites but always ready to read more of her work.
I didn’t initially realize that this book follows after Bloodmoon with some of the same characters. I was glad to read about John Bowie and Beth. Mitch’s loss is a heart wrenching one and could understand his overwhelming grief and need for vengeance.
After several events and Mitch starting therapy with Dylan Reede, the story became even more intriguing with plenty of twists and turns. There were times I was frightened and wondered what the ‘bad’ men would do next as they were cruel and callous.
I’m always ready for karma to hit those that deserve it and happy times for those that deserve that too. The book was a fairly quick read for me as I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
I highly recommend this book and any book by Ms. Brown and look forward to whatever she writes next. - Just Read and ImagineOne of Sandra Brown's best!Of all the books I have read written by Sandra Brown, this murder mystery has to be one of the best! Intriguing and intensive, this romantic suspense has it all including it owns protective hero in a small Louisiana backwoods town.
- Barbara M.Grabs You from the Start!Detective Mitch Haskell is determined to track down the individuals he believes responsible for the death of his wife. He’s at odds with his boss, Detective John Bowie. When he meets his new work-mandated therapist, Dr. Dylan Reede, he feels things he hasn’t felt in a long time and thought himself incapable of ever feeling again.
A romantic thriller that grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go! Mitch is involved in several things at once and finds trouble along the way. Fast paced, action filled, secrets revealed, twists and turns, danger, deception, and more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. - Kathy JohnsonWonderful Romantic Suspense!!!This is the second book in the Blood series. I would classify this as a romantic suspense. It is full of romance, suspense, mystery, drug trafficking and murder. This suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are spot on and the pace made it hard to put down. Can’t wait for more from this author.
