- G. B.Cooks fast and absorbs flavorAs good as TVP and better because it is Pea Protein Nice to have an alternative to soy granules
Best taco filling recipe I found is on Shane$ Simple website and this product works great for it! - Uncle SamLifelong veganAs a lifelong vegan, I purchased this to have on hand for soups and stir fries. It is flavorless, but soaks up flavors quickly. Adds a chewy texture to dishes. A 5-10 minute soak before using seems adequate. It is supposed to have a decent protein content, so a good addition so far to my diet.
- F. QadriGreat “Meat” AlternativeI have been looking for good “meat alternative” options ever since my husband started his vegan journey. I am so happy I found this one. It comes dehydrated so at first the quantity seems small, but just follow the instructions and see this product change like magic. The instructions say to add 1.5 cups of water to 2 cups of product. That’s exactly what I did. I made sure to stir it so the product and water mixed well. I let it sit (about 15-20 minutes) while I cooked up an onions and tomatoes base for my dish. The product more than doubled in size in this time. I used it to prepare a vegan “ground beef” and bell peppers dish. It cooked like ground beef normally would, except with a much shorter cooking time. The finished dish looked similar to the one I would make with ground beef. The aroma, flavor and texture were all there without the “meat” tasting strange or rubbery. The product absorbed the spices really well and the dish turned out looking and tasting delicious. Am I switching over to a vegan diet? No, but I will happily eat this alongside my husband. If you are looking to add a “meat alternative” to your vegan options, and are in need of a product that cooks up easily and tastes great, I highly recommend this.
- InfoSeek 2.0Clean Protein You Can Make It Into Anything! This pea protein is a rare find.
It really does tast/feel just like meat when mixed in other foods. I use it to make "pea-a-roni" macaroni and seasoning, maybe tomato sauce too. Add it to spaghetti and you can't tell the difference, its like you're eating spaghetti and meat.
I even made it taste like crunchy bacon bits on a salad. The only draw back for ME is, it is FILLING. I don't like having that "full" feeling because it bothers me at work.
You don't need much either. I only use 1/4 a cup in a meal, thta's enough for me. It has a lot of protein packed in a small serving!
So, be prepared to be filled-up after adding this, it is a clean protein and didn't cause any inflammation to me or weird food sensitivuty issue, which I now get when eating store bought meats, which is why I had to get plant based proteins like this one. - Kate L.Great pantry staple - keep this on handI've rebought this product 4 times and will probably continue to do so. It is a great substitute for TVP, which is not as healthy since it is heavily based on soy. Good, neutral taste makes it a great base for many dishes. It is very versatile. I use it to make meatballs, patties, or just some nice crumbles to put on top of pasta or use as filling for tacos. All you have to do is adjust the seasoning. It browns nicely in the skillet. Healthy and tastes great.
- Ms. DStarting the day right!Excellent product! Very fresh and crunchy. I bought bulk betting it would be fresher than the smaller bags, 2hich 2ere never crunchy. Great value. I vacuum sealed it all into jars and reseal the jar each time I have some. I eat it with 2% or whole milk Greek yogurt, almond milk, chopped jicama, salt (so much better), stevia, vanilla extract or maple flavor, and cinnamon. Scrumptious low carb start to my day.
- JenGreat TVP alternative!I have always had soy protein that is very similiar in form, so I was surprised to learn that textured pea protein exists! My wife is trying to cut back on soy based products due to an intolerance, so this product was nice to have. It is plain and will take on whatever flavors you add to it. The chunks are slightly larger than what is pictured, which I appreicated since the texture could easily turn to power. We like to use this specifically for asian lettuce wraps. The protein soaks up the vinegars and soy sauces well, but still provide an easy, lean protein option for plant based folks! I look forward to incorporating this more into a variety of dishes!
- Amazon CustomerTurned out well overall...At first taste, I was definitely concerned about the texture, because after hydrating (using the directions on the package) it seemed a bit firm & unforgiving, yet it did nicely hold the flavor of the veggie broth I used to hydrate it. But, upon sautee with garlic, onions, and the natural sweat of cooked portobello mushrooms, the consistency turned out well. So, you may need to add a little more liquid than recommended. First time trying it today-- used it to make tacos. Will probably get a total of 4 meals out of the 7.9oz bag-- but, several servings per each meal (i.e. 4-6 tacos).
