5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!
This is a unique story among mafia romances, and I loved it. At times, I required some suspension of belief, but it was really a minor issue because I adored all the twists and turns. Dimitri is one of those alphas who doesn't listen to anyone else, and I find that frustrating because so many issues could have been solved with a bit of communication. But all the characters are great, and the friendship between Wren, Dimitri, and Bee was fun (this is not a love triangle in the usual sense). I can't wait to see how this resolves.
4.0 out of 5 stars Bratva with a twist.
Here are some things I really liked:
I think the author did a good job of making things emotional, but also exciting. There were times when I felt myself tearing up and getting very annoyed. But also looking forward to what’s going to happen next.
The intricate way people are connected kept me on my toes. Especially knowing that there was one secret that we already knew about.
The premise of the book is very unique and pulled me out of a mafia drought. I also appreciated the authors ability to put detail into writing things over the span of several months.
It was a slow burn that I didn’t actually mind!
The cliffhanger wasn’t too surprising, but definitely left me ready for the next installment.
Bee was fantastic! You had two female characters that were complete opposite of each other, and I think that helped to meet a lot of different people’s expectations and love of characters.
I had a lot of empathy for Wren and could understand why she did some of the things she did. Even if I didn’t agree that Dimitri was worth her most of the time. She was put in a lot of tough places, but tried to manage both situations as well as she could.
Cons of the book :
Dimitri was in sufferable at times. After the moment he threw a fit and was extremely cold, and mean, the fact there was very little groveling (you are just a womb) and she forgives him very quickly was really annoying.
I don’t think Dimitri was written in a way that showed very many positive things about him. He did some big gestures (nice but few and far in between), but there were a lot of little things missing that would have made him more endearing. Instead, most of the time I found him equivalent to a petulant child, and couldn’t understand why she put up with him so often. It bothered me that he could do a few big things, but not ever be cordial through his temperament on a daily basis.
It took way too long for him to recognize how he felt about the main character. He also went back-and-forth so many times that I had whiplash and almost wanted her to find somebody that could be an actual adult. I do think the author did a good job of showing a lot of the things he was working through, but he still could have been a little more logical and caring. He’s a very emotionally, immature character. Which is a deviation from a normal Bratva leader.
I would’ve given this book 5 stars had Dimitri been able to be a little more likable , especially after the big revelation that I won’t spoil; but along the lines of he was giving her space, but really playing the victim. One of the tropes that people love the most, is the ‘mine’ trope, but he went back-and-forth too many times, and didn’t actually deliver on his possessiveness. At least not in a way that was exciting, it was more obnoxious.
However, overall great mafia read and highly recommend.
