Wren is pregnant, acting as a surrogate for her dead sister and brother-in-law. Unfortunately, the clinic mixed up the sperm sample, and she's pregnant with her boss's sperm. Dimitri is also a Bravka pakhan, so he moved Wren in with him and his fiancee, Bee.
This is a unique story among mafia romances, and I loved it. At times, I required some suspension of belief, but it was really a minor issue because I adored all the twists and turns. Dimitri is one of those alphas who doesn't listen to anyone else, and I find that frustrating because so many issues could have been solved with a bit of communication. But all the characters are great, and the friendship between Wren, Dimitri, and Bee was fun (this is not a love triangle in the usual sense). I can't wait to see how this resolves.

I actually really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading book number two. I think this was pretty unique in the way it was written, and the plot was very twisted, and I am dying to know how it ends.

Here are some things I really liked:

I think the author did a good job of making things emotional, but also exciting. There were times when I felt myself tearing up and getting very annoyed. But also looking forward to what’s going to happen next.

The intricate way people are connected kept me on my toes. Especially knowing that there was one secret that we already knew about.

The premise of the book is very unique and pulled me out of a mafia drought. I also appreciated the authors ability to put detail into writing things over the span of several months.

It was a slow burn that I didn’t actually mind!

The cliffhanger wasn’t too surprising, but definitely left me ready for the next installment.

Bee was fantastic! You had two female characters that were complete opposite of each other, and I think that helped to meet a lot of different people’s expectations and love of characters.

I had a lot of empathy for Wren and could understand why she did some of the things she did. Even if I didn’t agree that Dimitri was worth her most of the time. She was put in a lot of tough places, but tried to manage both situations as well as she could.

Cons of the book :

Dimitri was in sufferable at times. After the moment he threw a fit and was extremely cold, and mean, the fact there was very little groveling (you are just a womb) and she forgives him very quickly was really annoying.

I don’t think Dimitri was written in a way that showed very many positive things about him. He did some big gestures (nice but few and far in between), but there were a lot of little things missing that would have made him more endearing. Instead, most of the time I found him equivalent to a petulant child, and couldn’t understand why she put up with him so often. It bothered me that he could do a few big things, but not ever be cordial through his temperament on a daily basis.

It took way too long for him to recognize how he felt about the main character. He also went back-and-forth so many times that I had whiplash and almost wanted her to find somebody that could be an actual adult. I do think the author did a good job of showing a lot of the things he was working through, but he still could have been a little more logical and caring. He’s a very emotionally, immature character. Which is a deviation from a normal Bratva leader.

I would’ve given this book 5 stars had Dimitri been able to be a little more likable , especially after the big revelation that I won’t spoil; but along the lines of he was giving her space, but really playing the victim. One of the tropes that people love the most, is the ‘mine’ trope, but he went back-and-forth too many times, and didn’t actually deliver on his possessiveness. At least not in a way that was exciting, it was more obnoxious.

However, overall great mafia read and highly recommend.

This was book 1 in the "Egorov Bratva" duet. This was a good read Wren who is pregnant she was acting as a surrogate for her dead sister and brother-in-law only she just found out that she was given the wrong sperm. It turns out she was given her bosses sperm who just so happens to be the head of the Russian Bratva. Dmitri is a hot sexy alpha male who doesn't listen. Dmitri quickly moves her in with him and his fiancée, Bee. Dmitri and Bee are best friends turns out they are getting married is more to protect her from her father its fake she is gay. I liked all of these characters both Wren and Dmitri are both very stubborn I found myself frustrated with both of them. Dmitri doesn't want to let go of his late wife who he thought was prefect because she did everything, he told her do she didn't challenge like Wren does and he didn't know how to handle it. When Wren finds out who killed her sister and why she doesn't want to believe it and what her sister and brother-in-law did was why they were killed. I have read a lot of Ms. Fox's mafia books, and this one was a little different almost wished it was a ménage love story. I did have a few issues first of all this book was too long I felt that it was just filler in some spots. The second thing was the lack of sex scenes in this book and the ones that were in the book were ok. Overall, this was a pretty good read from an author that I love reading. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book in this duet.

Quickie Duet Review: I have always enjoyed diving into one of Fox’s duets when in between reads. And this one was truly fantastic. My only hang up was a grammar error at a pivotal moment that happens at a pivotal time. It ruined the scene for me. But all in all, the rest of story was still wonderful and it ended up redeeming itself. I loved the relationship between both Dmitri and Wren. Especially with how they came together in the first place. A unique situation. The duet kept my attention from start to finish and I look forward to more from this amazing author. 5 Stars.

I have to say this is probably the 6th or 7th book by Nicole Fox I have read and it was my favorite so far! Wren was not like most women in these books and just obnoxious! She was a strong character and well written.
