Otherwise, I don't see how I can afford to buy this! Let's use car products and services as a comparison. Tires I will gladly pay $100 each for, considering the value they offer me and my passengers in comfort and safety. The same goes for shock absorbers. But a collection of comic books? Please! Look, you can buy issue no. 2 of this series in F (Fine) condition for about the same price, and that would be an outstanding investment on your part. In ten years, it will probably be worth twice as much. And, depending on how old you are, the price you sell it for at retirement could be as high as $1,000! Many of the Avengers stories have been reprinted in one form or another. Many more of the original comics after issue no. 200 are dirt cheap in NM (Near-Mint) condition and can be found in your local comic book store. Sorry, this is too much money for a DVD, and the Captain America collection that is being offered for $600 right now is, quite frankly, RIDICULOUS! Get a grip. These are comic books, not a brake overhaul!

One final note: The prices being asked for by the seller(s) amounts to greed, pure and simple. Nothing less, nothing more. Come on... admit it... YOU'RE GREEDY! I understand about the "law" of supply and demand. That applies more to tangible goods that people really need, not collectibles. The original comic books are truly rare, and in near mint condition, are good investments and have earned their price tags after decades in the market. I could see paying $100 for this item (double retail), but not $200. And the $600 being asked for the Cap series is off the scale greedy. I don't care how long you leave it posted for that price. NO NORMAL PERSON IS GOING TO BUY IT! If someone pays the asking price for these two DVDs, they are obviously in a tax bracket that allows them to do so. However, even if I made $150,000 a year, I still would not pay this much money. Resist the urge to pay these high prices... show some discretion and stick with the rest of us poor schmucks in solidarity. Eventually, our protests will bring the price down. If the sellers want to move the item bad enough... they will acquiesce and bring the price down.

Addition: A couple of weeks ago, I got lucky and refreshed this page, which revealed that Amazon had gotten a hold of some remaining copies of this title, and of course, was offering them at retail. So, for $44.95, with free super saver shipping, I finally completed my collection of reprints. I didn't get the Captain America title, which they were also offering at retail, knocking the $600 competitor right off the sales floor. I have all of my favorite Cap stories from Tales of Suspense in the Iron Man collection, and the first twelve Captain Americas I can get in the Marvel Masterpieces. I have no need for any post-Kirby issues. Jack went over to DC after this, and produced some pretty cool stuff, which is still undervalued in the Guide. Actually, if I wanted to, I could buy C.A. #100-112 in Fine for about $200. But I am way past the investment stage of the game. In ten years, I will be selling my personal collection, which should bring about $50,000.00. I am already in the process of selling off the lower grade reader copies I bought 20 years ago. Those don't go up much in value, so I am basically getting my money back, which is still not bad in the economy we are in.

Incredible in nearly every way. Okay - giant sized aren't included, but all else is perfect. This seems to be the set that received the least acclaim - it settled into a somewhat mediocre run during comics' hottest times, and picked up again when most interest was waning. However - it has some of the greatest stories in its core run, and its history seems to be the least reflected upon through re-visitations, etc. and I know that as a collector, I'd even dropped it, but was still collecting West Coast Avengers - YIKES!

Now, we can peruse through its entire set in the comfort of our own cozy chair with a laptop... Okay - I know that doesn't SIT well, but for the price - and even now in its hyper-inflated price ($100 - YIKES!), it is still a bargain.

These comics detail the silver age in its glory. To study the stories, art, slow decline, collapse, and then reforging are amazing. Pair it with the compendium piece, Avengers - The Old Order Changeth! (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UX6TB6) to complete the digital avengers set. It includes the New Avengers set.

In addition, with the Avengers film on the horizon, consider the value of this set becoming increasingly collectible in just a few short years.Avengers - The Old Order Changeth!

This is the second DVD from the company Games Electronics that was damaged in such a fashion that I cannot return it. I HIGHLY suggest that you do not purchase anything from this company.

Nice item, but it's missing something very important: the Giant Size issues. You know, the ones where Vision and Scarlet Witch got married; the ones that continue stories from issues in 74 and 75. None of the Marvel sets have the giant size issues.

I have a Mac at home and the DVD Rom had difficulties with my Mac. I'm on OSX and when I tried to read the PDF file, there was a transparent MARVEL logo across the center of every page that was annoying. When I tried to move onto the next issue, it would be missing and I would have to reload and start the disc again.

When I took it to work and put it in my PC at my desk, it worked great, no transparency and a better presentation of menus for usage overall, so I guess I'll be reading this at work when I have time...

All in all, any of the GIT corp collections ("the 40 years of" anyways) are well worth the [...] you pay for them. Any complaints about missing crossovers will apply to ANY comic title. Think about the story lines that jump not only around the X-titles but leapt to The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, ect.

I've purchased the 40 years of X-men, Iron Man, Avengers and Spider-Man and love them all. About the only complaint I have is an issue with Adobe having issues with some disc burning software that seems to include a 3rd party PDF reader that will only display the 1960's issues of these GIT corp discs.

You're still getting over 400 comics for really great price, complete with original ads and the ability to print anything you want. Definitely worth the price.

I'm hoping that DC comics will follow suit.

When I was a kid, I religiously read many of the Marvel comics. The Avengers was one of my favorites. In my dreams I would have loved to have read all of the issues, but the expense would have been (WAY) too much. Now, after so many years the opportunity is finally here. I was afraid that my youth would be too far removed to enjoy reading these anymore, but I took a chance and bought this DVD anyway. It was worth it - by a mile. I am enjoying reading each and every issue since the famed #1 as much as I would have as a kid. It will take a long time to get through them all, but I'll enjoy every minute. Stan Lee, thank you for such a simple pleasure. Great stuff for kids of all ages.
