1.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice, quiet, doesn't clean well, quickly failed

My old dishwasher broke and began leaking, so it was time for a new one. I wanted a quality unit that did a good job washing, and that had a third rack on the top. I read some reviews, and this one looked like it fit the bill.

Best Buy delivered quickly, and I installed the unit myself. I was impressed with the quality and design, as well as the relative ease of installation.

One of the main features of this dishwasher, being highly energy efficient, is that it pops the door open at the end of the wash cycle, to aid in the drying of the dishes. This worked great...the first four times I used it. Then it stopped working, and it has never popped the door open since. This is a problem, because now your dishes end up sitting, soaking wet, and never drying - unless you happen to be around and remember to open the door manually.

A quick visit to the Samsung community support website and I discovered that there are MANY people who have this dishwasher who are experiencing the exact same problem: it works for the first 3-4 washes, and then never works again. It appears to be a design fault.

A second feature I wanted is the much vaunted "Smart Things" support, where you can hook the dishwasher to your Wifi, and control it via your phone. That way you can start the dishwasher remotely when you need to, or check on its status. This works great...except you have to enable it by pressing a button on the dishwasher. EVERY SINGLE TIME. You can't start the dishwasher remotely, because in order to enable the remote features, you have to first turn it on by pressing a button on the dishwasher. When the cycle finishes, it turns itself off again. This completely defeats the purpose of having remote control over the dishwasher! What an idiotic design decision!

Lastly, and most importantly, this dishwasher does not clean dishes ANYWHERE near as well as my old dishwasher did - a unit that cost half the price of this one. If there are many things on the main upper rack, the things on the top rack hardly get touched by spray, and remain dirty. I am OFTEN finding dishes on all of the racks that are still dirty after a wash cycle, and I end up running the wash cycle twice in order to get things clean, which kind of negates any energy or water savings.

So in conclusion, this dishwasher doesn't wash dishes very well, doesn't dry dishes at all, has major design faults, and the extra money I spent to get the Smart Things remote integration is a waste, because you have to manually press a button on the dishwasher first every time to enable it.

Choose a different dishwasher from a different manufacturer. I wish I had.

UPDATE: Samsung sent out a repair tech to fix the door under warranty. He replaced the solenoid that pushes the door open. He told me that he was "fixing one of these almost every day."

Result: It worked!!! For two whole days. Then it stopped working again. It's obviously a design fault. How did they not catch this widespread problem in product testing?? My original opinion remains: don't buy this piece of junk.

ANOTHER UPDATE: The unit is now 10 months old, the door release still works intermittently, but now the much marketed "linear wash" system has completely stopped working, and as a result the dishwasher no longer cleans dishes. What a PIECE OF JUNK this thing is, I'm sorry I spent my hard-earned cash on it. I'll now be spending even more money on purchasing an extended warranty for this lemon, because clearly I'm going to need it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incredible disappointment, numerous problems, no support

This dishwasher is loaded with problems that Samsung knows about but refuses to address.

It has a "water wall" arm instead of a spinner on the bottom. That is supposed to clean better because it doesn't miss the corners. It also has double the water on the left-hand side that can be optionally added. That's just one more thing to break... and it does. The water wall moves back and forth and the jets are in the back of the washer. They squirt the wall as it moves and the water is deflected upward to the dishes. The water wall uses a magnet to determine its position. Magnets lose their magnetism in heat, so guess what that means... it stops working when the magnet gets weak. If you stick another magnet to the factory magnet, it may get it working again. Search "waterwall magnet" at community.samsung.com to find these problems. That's the site where Samsung tells you to pay for a repair because it's not their problem. You'll see the owner's frustration.

Another problem is the door is supposed to open at the end of the cycle. Two little plungers push it open. They work for several weeks and then stop. They either don't open the door or they get stuck and you can't close the door. Search for "auto release" at the above site to see lots of owners complaining.

Samsung does not have many repair centers and some independents won't work on them. I found one who did, but he said they were hard to work on and some parts are just not available (like the circuit boards). The Samsung parts site has no parts available, zero, zip, nada. Everything shows back-order. I asked the chat-rep and he confirmed they have no parts. The chat rep told me to have their service rep come out (a six hour round trip charge plus the repair charge.) That would cost more than the dishwasher.

I got an error code that said it would not drain. It did drain, however and no water was left. The drain worked fine, but it gave an error code every wash. The service tech thought it could be either the case break or the pump, he couldn't determine which from the codes. Either would be a couple hundred dollar repair and might not fix it.

Samsung should recall these dishwashers and fix these design defects, but they won't even repair them when they break, much less recall all of them and fix them. I would never buy a Samsung appliance again based on the experience with this dishwasher. You'll see lots of folks on the Samsung site have the same opinion.

1.0 out of 5 stars do not buy this dishwasher!

The negatives are many: does not clean! You must wash dishes before putting them in the DW, my water usage/bill has doubled! Must keep door open at all times as it smells even after you sanitize! Top shelf is a joke….nothing gets cleaned! Utility baskets don’t fit in easily. Even with Rinse Aid. there are water marks on glassware. Have had it 13 months and am looking to replace it Gave it one star as it is quiet!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't forget soon the water sprayer attached to the top basket will fall off too

. If you note they only have it secured by a plastic clamp that is open. So after so many times of pulling the rack in and out the plastic stretches and the arm falls off. I have already experienced all the issues except for the damaged floor. Poor performance. Glass is always spotty. Rinse aid no help. It just goes on and on. This is my 2nd one . Best Buy replaced the first one.
