The TCL 50-Inch Class S5 UHD 4K LED Smart TV (2024 model) is a fantastic value! The picture quality is stunning with Dolby Vision and HDR PRO+ that bring vibrant colors and deep contrast. Whether you’re watching movies, sports, or playing games, the 4K resolution makes everything look sharp and lifelike.

The sound quality is also impressive with Dolby Atmos, delivering clear and immersive audio. It makes a noticeable difference, especially during action scenes or while watching content with dynamic sound. The built-in Alexa voice remote is incredibly convenient for controlling the TV hands-free, and it works seamlessly with my smart home devices.

The TV is very user-friendly with built-in Fire TV, offering access to a wide range of streaming services and apps. Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility is a nice bonus, making it easy to share content from my phone or tablet.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with the TCL 50-Inch S5 TV. It offers incredible features at a great price point and is perfect for anyone looking to upgrade their home entertainment system. Highly recommended!

UPDATE 12/10/24: While everything I wrote still stands, I have discovered you CAN NOT disable the SLEEP TIMER.! This is a HUGE DESIGN FLAW and IMMENSELY AGGRAVATING & INCONVENIENT! Example: Every time I pause a show (to answer phone etc), the TV goes into Sleep Mode and I have to Start the process All Over again; Go to & click Hulu (any app), click my name, scroll to show I was watching, Click on show, then Click "play". Unbelievable waste of time and IRRITATING to No End! While researching how to disable the sleep timer, I found so many forums with many, manh people discusing this issue and how P!ssed off everyone is about this horrible issue. Why they don't have "Never" option in the sleep timer is the most idiotic oversight. If I had discovered this within my return window, I would have got rid of this TV. Unless they fix this in the future, I will NEVER EVER buy another Fire TV! ROKU is so much more user-friendly and not trying to force things on the user (like Amazon TV). Are there work arounds? Yes there are but they are only temporary and jusr another step you have to redo offten.

The Color is fantastic and the picture is pretty great as far as backlight, brightness, and sharpness. It seemed smaller than my last TCL 55" but I measured it and it was the same size. I'm still trying to get used to the Home page layout of the Fire OS - I prefer Roku. 3 things that bothered me about this T.V.: 1.) I'm disappointed that the 3.5 mm headphone jack will not output to my multimedia speakers (with subwoofer), like my last TCL. I did all the proper settings and no sound at all. Luckily, the onboard TV speaker sound is better than most TV's if you tweak the settings a bit. It's good enough that I didn't feel compelled to buy a sound bar immediately (may get one eventually).
2.) Like other reviews mentioned, there is a lag sometimes. It's just enough to be annoying but nothing to pull your hair out over...so far. I will update if anything gets worse with time.
    3) This is my worst pet peeve about this TV - I hate the remote! It's too long, overly sensitive (easy to trigger), and not very efficient with the button layout imo. But I have small hands so maybe that's why. Having Alexa makes up for some of my dislikes.
All in all, this is an excellent TV for the price and a great deal. I like that it has a Media Player (app) so I can see stuff from a thumb drive right on my T.V. Lets see how long it lasts. The T.V. that I was replacing, a 55" TCL 5 series with Roku, the video went out 4 months after the 4 year extended warranty expired. Good thing I didn't pay for the extended warranty lol.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great picture, lame OS
Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2024
I have a Roku TCL in my bedroom I absolutely love, so when my living room TV finally died, I wanted to get a similar, except for a larger size.

The Roku TCL took weeks to deliver, the Amazon Fire TCL TV I could get in two days. Having a quick need, I figured, hey - how different can it be?

Boy was I wrong. So my review is heavy on Fire TV sucks.

The picture quality is great! So the TV itself is a super crazy awesome value, like my other original Roku TCL.

But I fail to understand why a TV needs to use 40% of the display's top region on a home page for Amazon product and programming ads, and thus reducing my app list to a handful of favorites. Not bad enough, THEN I get scroll banners on the bottom of the TV promoting using Alexa for crap movies I don't want to see anyway - promoting me to "say, 'Alexa, what movie was that dumb stupid mainstream actor you don't care about in?'" flashing non-stop.

Below my graciously awarded half-line of five or six preferred apps - which is all I can place on a giant homescreen - is the standard Amazon-recommended line of programs. Like the huge ginormous 40% of the top of the screen wasn't enough.

Then my full app list in a secondary list. Why is the primary use of a product I purchase relagated to secondary option?? It feels like Fire TV is a billboard for Amazon first, my TV second.

There's no way to shut it off and just have a simple background, like Roku. Roku does an awesome job of having ads, promoting channels, content and products, but not being intrusive.

I will never NEVER buy a Fire TV product again.

Also incredibly infuriating is there is absolutely no way to shut off the auto-power down. Zero. I'm a pauser. I have a six year old, who frequently needs attention. After about 10 minutes - which goes by way faster than it sounds, the TV powers off. There is absolutely NO WAY TO DISABLE IT. THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER. So if I pause a movie to make dinner, get a phone call, etc the TV will shut off. Then you have to go through all the Fire TV crap to get back to where you were when you paused.

    It's seriously maddening. And stupid.

Once something streams, yeah - wow the quality is superb. 100%. For image quality at this price point, it's a darn fine TV. And I will give Fire TV props that I love that I can use VLC Media Plyer instead of the Roku media player - thus use of subtitles. That's a big win and fantastic, as I watch a lot of international media.

But not enough to overcome my sheer angst each time I turn on my Amazon Electronic Billboard before I can watch TV. Or have to keep tagging my remote if I get interrupted.
