5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!

I’ve always been a JBL fan. I think they’re fantastic. But for the price, I wasn’t expecting much but knew it would be better than my $70 cheap sound bar. Wow! The sound quality is incredible and the sub was so much bigger than I anticipated. From movies to music this system does not disappoint! Crisp highs and bass you can feel. I’m so happy with this sound system!

5.0 out of 5 stars Way better sound than the Klipsch 600
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2024
JBL produces much better sound at every level than the Klipsch 600 3.1 sound bar that I replaced!!! Bass was always on the highest setting level with the Klipsch 10" woofer. The JBL produces better bass at a lower setting and no problems pairing during setup. Mid range is also fuller with the JBL.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pairing with remote can be an issue
Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2023
I have been through many soundbars. This one functions pretty well with just a few exceptions. First of all, the sound is good. The woofer does it job and delivers 5 levels of bass. It does well at giving depth to the movie or whatever you are watching. I only turn it up to max when I am in for a theater experience. Watching TV, I turn it down to 3 (out of 5) or it gets a bit overwhelming. The soundbar I have just below my 65" flat screen. It doesn't produce a wrap around sound, but it is better than most TV's produce on their own. I have a good TV that generates sound from the screen - this is marginally better, but the subwoofer makes up for it.

Instructions suck. So does the ability to find relevant content on the Web. I have to pair the soundbar's remote, to my TV remote, every time I use it. That's a hassle. This is where better instructions, or better design and performance, should be helpful. I bought this refurbished, so it was about 1/2 the new price. I would be returning it, had I paid full price - mostly because of the remote issue.

At my age, my hearing is not what it used to be. Concerts with Van Halen (and many others), along with my personal stereo listening habits when much younger, have taken a toll on my hearing. Many soundbars offer "clarity of speech" settings which are extremely helpful to understand speech without blowing everyone else out of the water, this doesn't have them. But it does make it seem slightly better in hearing conversations clearly. I still use captions, though, so as not to miss things. Were I to pay $600 or more (full price), I would expect those options included today. This soundbar may be headed for the bedroom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Issues with an Optical Cable Connectivity. Deteriorating connectivity issue.
Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022
The first day I had the soundbar connected it would lose or revert to something other than the television audio; during this time I was using an optical cable from a previous soundbar. On the second day, I left the optical cable in place and have also connected the HDMI cable that came with the soundbar; day 2 was a success.

I've used the sound bar for 2 months now, with the optical and HDMI cables connected. I had originally only experienced disconnections every 2 to 3 days, now. the sound bar goes into a standby mode several times a day. I believe the sound quality of this product to be very good for its price point but functionally it is flawed and annoying; I will be returning this device.

The sound quality is better than most I've heard, and comparable to the previous Boston Acoustics TV30 that I had since 2012, but had recently stopped working. The bass on the JBL Bar 5.1 subwoofer does seem to be better than the TV30's 8" subwoofer, and I like that it is adjustable. I like bass, I had the subwoofer set on 4 of 5 yesterday and 5 of 5 today.

I found the unit software was finicky to set up, it took several attempts, and just over an hour before all fell in line. What I did find after messing with the setup for the majority of the hour is that after the onset of trouble, I should have unplugged the unit, waited 20 seconds, and started over. For reasons unknown to me, resetting the unit and starting over went much smoother the second time through. Connectivity with wifi was the issue the first time through, which seemed to be self-correcting the second time through. The app to perform the setup was troublesome, it may have also been the culprit, but I have no way to confirm; the app is primarily used to set up the system's connection to wifi. Updating the system's firmware was a dead-end online for me.

No issues with Bluetooth connectivity. Although I've only tested Bluetooth a minimal amount.

The instructions that came in the box are not good. I ended up searching the internet for the user's manual; only the quick start guide came in my box. The user's manual I found online did do a more thorough job explaining the processes of setting up the system and provided the directions to set up the unit for use with my television remote control, which is limited to power on/off, volume up/down, and mute.

Wall mounting brackets were included in the box for the soundbar, but I didn't need them. Otherwise, all the cables were included.
