My old 18v DeWalt hammer drill finally broke its transmission after 20+ years of service. It died under mysterious circumstances while my 12 and 10 year old boys were "using" it to build a crossbow. In full disclosure, that drill had burned brushes right from the beginning and I never bothered to send it in for warranty work. Probably could have lasted a lifetime with better care.
Enter this unit, which is a vastly superior replacement. It's about half the size/weight as the original and feels like it has more torque and speed. The LED work light and belt clip are nice additions. Although I do miss the bit holders. Another big improvement is the price. I bought this refurbished but it cost about 1/3 the price in 2019 dollars. In other words, it's probably 1/6th the price of the original.
