I bought two.
First one: vacuum advance leaked badly; points plate frozen so even if the vac. advance had not leaked, it could not advance; mechanical advance too bound up to move back to idle position

Second one: vacuum & mechanical advance in working condition; tachometer cable port is tapped/threaded for NPT and plugged, which makes it impossible to mount the tach cable. Worst: the distributor shaft is completely frozen, it cannot be turned. I could have wiped out my cam/oil pump drive if I had installed it.

I asked Amazon for a refund on #1, and for a replacement for #2.

The replacement (third one): Housing so bead blasted that the Ford part number prefix cannot be read; housing not drilled for the governor air inlet (see pics).

All of the three had had their oil cups removed, along with the cotton batting in the oil port; neither were reinstalled, and you're not going to pop down to the auto parts store and buy an oil cup these days (1/4", for reference). They plug the port with a plastic plug, and when I pulled it, the port is chock full of particulate debris (sorry for the lousy pic on that one, but trust me, it ain't clean). And, the shaft end play is .062"; the spec. is .025-.035", and that'll affect both the timing stability and the gear wear at the camshaft.

I suspect these are all returns from customers that somebody is selling off to get rid of them via Amazon. They're also selling both governed and non-governed, tach and no-tach models under the same part number. I've just ordered this same Cardone part number from my local O'Reilly's (at three times the cost, with core charge) and I'll compare that one from their supply chain, but STAY FAR AWAY from these on Amazon, unless all you want is a core.

Later: I received the same Cardone part number via O'Reilly's, and it has none of the issues outlined above. It does have a Welch plug in the tach hole, which is easily removed and won't affect operation for me. I've returned Amazon #3 distributor, and post this as a warning: unless your standards are very low, stay away from this supplier.
