If you have a P71 Ford Crown Victoria, there is a way to install and remove the power steering pump without removing the pulley or cutting the high pressure line. I did a lot of research online and everyone says you have to cut the high pressure line or remove the pulley to remove or install the pump; however if you remove the oil filter (drain oil from pan first), then drain the coolant, remove the oil cooler lines, drain the power steering fluid, remove the pressure lines from where they attach to the steering box, then use a regular crows foot wrench (not a flare nut crows foot, they will not work) you will be able to loosen and remove the high pressure line, which will give you clear access to the pump mounting bolt that it blocks. Reverse the steps with the new pump, install a new oil filter, fill the oil, coolant and power steering reservoir. I know that sounds like a lot of steps, but you probably need an oil change anyway :) and Amazon has the best prices on oil filters!! Also, removing the pulley and reinstalling it takes quite a lot of hard wrenching, which can put a lot of stress on the bearings.
Now for the review of the pumps performance. When I first installed it everything was great. absolutely silent and the steering was very smooth and easy, just like it was new!! Then, after 5 months out of nowhere, the pump stopped working. It was obviously past the return period for Amazon, and even though there is a PDF in the description that says Cardone has a 3 year warranty for power steering pumps, their customer service agent responded to my email by saying that they do not honor ANY warranty for items sold on Amazon. I have the Email to prove what I am saying. If the pump had lasted longer I would not be so upset, and I would not have rated it one star. It started out so well! The pump looked new and worked great for 5 months, but if I knew in advance that they would not honor ANY warranty, I never would have bought it.
My problem is not with Amazon, they did their portion flawlessly, as always. If they manufactured this pump I am sure they would warranty it!!! Amazon should expand to aftermarket auto parts manufacturing!
I wish Cardone would have honored their 3 year warranty. I am sure I could have taken them to small claims court here in my state, but I have been ill (almost died and spent a month in ICU). I now have to travel 4 hours one way to see a specialist at Baylor who is trying to save my life. I just do not have the time to go to court over less than $75. However you need to know that there is no warranty on this or any Cardone auto parts. Here is an excerpt from the Amazon reply email "Manufacturers’ warranties may not apply in all cases, depending on factors such as use of the product, where the product was purchased, or who you purchased the product from. Please review the warranty carefully, and contact the manufacturer if you have any questions." And here is one from the Cardone reply email to my warranty request "For any warranty/returns, you would need to contact Amazon and they can assist you according to their warranty/return policy." So as you see, Cardone passed the warranty buck back to Amazon, and Amazon rightly says to contact Cardone, because they have a warranty listed (but they do not honor it).
It is really a shame, I like to be able to save a little money on auto parts on Amazon, and will continue to purchase them here; however I now know that Cardone will not honor ANY warranty for their parts. Other manufacturers do, as I have had to return a part for another car from another manufacturer purchased on Amazon. Amazon is the future! I hope someone from Cardone reads this and makes changes to their policy to honor the posted Warranty in the future. If they do not, I can only imagine that after enough people have bad experiences with them, and enough people post reviews about those bad experiences, they will not sell very much here on the world's most AWESOME Marketplace, AMAZON!
