    My daughter bought me this as a Christmas present. Some health issues meant I was unable to start the job I wanted it for until the beginning of May. I took it out of the case it came in, plugged it in but it was totally dead. It simply did not work. I emailed CPO but they denied either a replacement or a refund, saying it was out of warranty. CPO's web page for the product doesn't give any warranty information and no warranty information came with the machine. I explained that it hadn't been used at all and was clearly defective from the moment it was shipped, and asked them again to refund my money but they said no. Because there was no documentation with the machine there is no way to get service from Ridgid either. CPO's service is appalling. I'm left with a machine that doesn't work at all, with no recourse. No-one should do business with these people. I'd give zero stars if I could.

    This sander works well, it cuts aggressively therefore it saves a lot of time by getting the job done sooner. The velcro holds the sandpaper in place very securely. The reason for the low rating is because of my disappointment with the dust collector. It does not hook in place so it never stays on. As soon as the machine is turned on, the dust collector comes off.

    As long as it holds up I bought a great tool, about half price is my cost.Its very balanced ,buttons are located in prime spots.The speed control is excellent, it's heavy enough that I was able to remove finish from my car with very minimal effort,the disc stay on really well.Its not hot when used a long time, plus I didn't have any lasting vibrations in my hands after I was done working.i have a lot of Rigid AC tools I bought new so ,I took a chance on refurbished based on my new stuffs performance,the dust collector actually does a good job, normally I ditch those pretty quick,but I think this will be the first time I've kept one and it worked,also it's easy to remove and clean.The cord is plenty long enough and the design allows you the room to work right to the edge of your work area and no wandering off the work area by mistake because it is well balanced,if they get more of these in I think you would be doing well to buy one and save the cost,also I checked online at Rigid.com and any refurbished tool is warranted by Rigid for one year with a proper receipt.

    Solidly built random orbit sander, with the exception of the dust bag which doesn't lock in place and tends to fall off. An excellent value for the price.

    Bought this to retire a variable speed Craftsman unit that was one of the most aggressive in it's class several years ago. This one is quite a smooth operator. The bag is way easier to get the junk out of when you empty it out, and it does not fall off when you inadvertently bump it a few times during a project like the press-fit bags do.

    Read a handful of reviews/blogs on 5" Random orbit sanders and this seemed to get the most positive attention of any model out there. I am very pleased with the purchase!

    I bought this sander after my trusty old Black & Decker died after years of hard use and abuse. I loved that sander and almost bought another one, but have recently started getting into Ridgid tools and have loved them. This sander is a huge upgrade in every way, and although the cheap Black and Decker served me well, I will never, ever go back.

    This sander is considerably more heavy duty and larger, which makes it way more comfortable to hold. As far as sanding ability, it gets to the finish I want faster and with a more consistent finish.

    The biggest difference though that I've noticed, is how well it's counter-balanced and how well it eliminates the vibration. My B&D vibrated a ton, and was hard on my hands after a while. This sander vibrates considerably less and is extremely comfortable to use. After using the B&D my hands would feel like they were buzzing for some time after, with this one long use is no problem. I'm extremely happy with this.

    I don’t ever plan on wasting my time and money purchasing anything Ridgid Brand ever again! They was the top of the line tools Then they started getting cheap. This sander only worked for 15 minutes and started smoking.
