    I bought a 100 year old house in which the dumb thermostat was placed right next to some leaky sash duplex windows. There was no way to just set the thermostat and forget it. As the Texas heat rose during the day the thermostat location rose along with it. If I didn't turn up the thermostat, the AC would simply run all day and freeze out the rest of the house. So three or four times a day I would turn up the thermostat to turn off the AC unit. I actually talked to someone about moving the thermostat, but fortunately he declined.

    Fast forward to receiving a mailer from a warehouse club with the Ecobee thermostat and sensor. As I read up on this device, I realized this could potentially solve my problem! I watched an online video of the installation, and checked my wiring to discover that I indeed had a C-wire (which made the install easier). I ended up buying the Ecobee3 with 3 sensors from Amazon. Although I watched the installation video, I was still nervous about the install. Semi-pro tip: Take a clear picture of your current wiring before you take it apart. This will help you rewire with the Ecobee. The installation was actually pretty simple, and I did all of it after watching one video. Still, there is always that trepidation where you worry if 1) you did everything correctly and 2) is it going to work?

    Ecobee has done an excellent job with their guided software interface. I just followed their prompts and created an online account etc. I did have a little difficulty figuring out the online interface and how to get the unit to follow the schedule I created. The schedule I created allowed my to choose the temperature for AM and PM and to select the sensors I wanted the thermostat to use. Semi-pro tip #2: If it says "xx and hold" or "Home and hold" under the temperature, you aren't following your schedule. You are overriding your schedule. Click on the "X" on the "on hold" notice and the thermostat will follow your schedule.

    I am no longer chained to the thermostat sensor by the leaking window. The schedule I created allowed me to focus on the sensors in the bedroom, TV room and kitchen. I can now literally set the thermostat and forget it. I wish I had done this sooner.

    This was not a reconditioned unit. It was clearly used and not reconditioned. I thought those scratches were on a plastic protector but after 45 minutes of hooking it up I tried to peel off the plastic and there was none. I saw the paint from the last user on the large wall plate but did not think much about it as I did not need to use it. I got my full refund and convinced Amazon to pay return shipping as it was fraud and not just a misunderstanding. I would say DO NOT SHOP WITH THIS THIRD PARTY VENDOR!!

    I do not mind getting used equipment, but when the unit is scratched, dirty, and has finger prints all over it does not give a good first impression. Then I found that all 3 button batteries for the remote sensors were all dead, completely, 0.3V. OK fine I can clean the unit and I will buy some new batteries. But then after install I found out that the AC and Fan relay's do not function, thankfully the heating relay works as it is 5degF out right now. Obviously this unit was not "professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers" Contacted seller and awaiting response. Will update after resolved.

    Super easily installed. The app is pretty easy to work. The sensors didn't really work well with sensing the room being occupied when we were sleeping or sitting still watching TV. My biggest complaint is only being able to set the temperature in a 5 degree range. My bedroom has a plasma tv so it tends to be very hot. The unit seems to keep my room at the top of the great temperature instead of bringing it down to a mid way temp or closer to the cold temp so I'm constantly overriding the settings. That kind of defeats the point of having the smart schedule. But I can conveniently change it from my phone instead of having to get up and physically go change the thermostat. I did buy it in a used condition as well and the previous owner's setting and info were still in the unit. Also the sensor backs were missing. All in all I like the unit.

    I ordered two. One worked great. One wouldn’t call on the unit to start. Stayed in the phone with tech support for hours trying to get it working. No luck. Returned and bought a new one

    *Update: 2&1/2 months later the other is doing the same thing as the first one I returned. Sending this one back too. So glad it happened during the extended return window. Should have just bought new ones

    Powered up but would not turn any of the units on. Wires were checked and rechecked. I ended up returning and ordering a new unit that was not a reburb.
