Pros:
You'll need your router, paper, your iPhone or Android, the Brother iPrint app (so install it ahead of time) and the box with toner and drum plus printer, a power outlet.
Installs in minutes--after unpacking and removing the tape on various panels, you insert the drum and toner (included) and then connect to the internet via a button. There's a display panel. Those goofy picture instruction don't tell you to hit the WPS button on your router (usually a big, lit button on front or top) but you have to tell the router you're connecting. So when you do wireless, you generally are going to hit that big button. Mine is two floors down so station someone there to do your bidding if your router is in a different room.
I used an ethernet connection (hard wire) because the office had one where I was installing the printer but you can go wireless. For the the laptops in the house and the phone, the wireless worked flawlessly by connecting with the router password. You can also use a standard printer-USB cable not included, if you wish direct connection to your PC.
Next step, load the paper and run test prints.

Note: the paper tray will do envelopes (a manual procedure) but I've never found a printer that didn't balk at this job. So for ease of doing envelopes, I use sheets of Avery labels. Your word processing software will handle most sizes and format labels for you. If you have an address you use a lot, print a sheet and file it away for use later.
Re Mobile Device Printing: You use the Brother iPrint app. It has been recently updated and works pretty well.
You'll also need that to connect to the WiFi. You can direct documents from Dropbox, downloaded on your phone, downloaded from email, and it is very handy. I use it as often as I use my desktop PC for printing.
WHAT THIS PRINTER DOES NOT DO
There is no scanner/copy function. Or page feeder. So using this as a copier is a NO-GO. What to do? Take a photo of your doc via your phone and print. It's not as tidy but it will work.
Scanners are oddly expensive at the moment though you can get a Canon flatbed for under a hundred. So if you need scanning and copying, this is not the printer for you, you'd want something like the Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer, HLL2395DW, Flatbed Copy & Scan . That adds seventy bucks to the price but it's still less than adding a scanner.
I always use one of these NON-SCANNING printers as a duty printer at home (my mom's suggestion! Yes, a woman born same epoch as Queen Elizabeth II tells me the best printer to buy.) The fewer moving parts make this a highly reliable printer that prints black and white only but with high capacity toner. I have a similar, older model and it has been printing for 12 years and I just changed the toner maybe for the second time this week. It just does its job and doesn't complain. And it's compact on the shelf.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND for home use, basic printing based on reliability, size and thrifty operation.
