    We bought this watch a year ago for our son, primarily for safety reasons. However, after just a couple of months, it started acting up. My son would receive text messages a day late, his calls to me would fail, and when I tried calling him, it would go straight to voicemail. Initially, we thought it was an issue with our cellular provider, but they confirmed everything was fine on their end. Since our son doesn’t have a phone yet, this watch was supposed to be a solution, but it’s turned out to be completely unreliable and not serving its purpose.

    I’d been thinking about getting an Apple Watch as an emergency communications backup to my cell phone as well as for the health monitoring features, but I didn’t want to spend almost $400 on a device I wasn’t sure would work out for me. This “renewed” watch looked like a very good opportunity to evaluate the Apple Watch at a much lower price, and so far it’s worked out, for the most part.

    Shortly after charging it, the display went into a strange mode where it showed a magnified section of the face, and didn’t respond to button presses. I tried updating the operating system via my watch, which didn’t do anything. After researching on line, I did a restart via pressing both buttons simultaneously, and that did the trick.

    I haven’t had any problems since then, although it’s only the second day I’ve had it. If it lasts, and does everything I need, I just might upgrade to the next model up in a few months. Might even get a new one. If I have other problems, I’ll note them here.
