5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Renewed made this a good purchase

At MSRP, these are a bit pricey for my taste. However, I bought this particular set "renewed" and they seem very much equal to new while also at a substantial discount. The bass is punchy but can also get reasonably low for the middling-sized woofer, the five satellites provide good clarity and frequency coverage, and the whole system can get significantly louder than necessary for a set of PC speakers. I like the ability to feed it Dolby Digital over SPDIF, which simplifies wiring from my Sound Blaster X-Fi (which can natively encode it.)

Full transparency: I'm a bit of a Logitech homer, essentially all of ther equipment has treated me well over 20+ years of ownership. These Z906's are replacing a set of Z-540's which are probably at least 20 years old, and finally after a dozen home moves the left rear channel "plug" end has shorted and no longer works. A sad day, but absolutely worth their price tag at Sams an eon ago.

I had the 5.1 Z-5300 when I was younger and it was pretty great always wanted this one though didn’t have a point. I finally needed a new stereo in an apartment and I chose this z906. You can turn the bass all the way off for apartments that’s nice. It has the ability to duplicate 5.1 surround which is cool too. I make music sometimes and this system has almost no coloring so it’s like throwing it into a car and checking my mixes, width and depth plus bass volume because the sub is very balanced in responsive. I didn’t like how Logitech put the amp all the way in the box though. If you check the Z-5300 it has vents for the amp and is mounted outside the box.. this isn’t. I checked the temp and it was around 130-145, more when turned up for long periods. Bad to overheat hardworking subwoofers. I took the time to cut some wood and move the amp to the outside and mount a fan with a 3v power supply. The running temp is now near 100 almost all the time. Be sure to add a little poly fill if you do the same because Logitech tunes the box with the amp inside. I used a couple strips from an Amazon bubble package and stapled them in an X to hold the polyfil. I love the sound quality, small foot print and build design with simple function remote. I’ve owned 7.1, 5.2, 2.1 stereos with many many different sets of speakers, studio monitors, paper speakers from the 50’s high end and mid grade setups. I’ve owned DJ systems from Mackie too. I like this setup. You can order speaker wall mounts. It’s clean and compact and hard to destroy minus water damage cause the sub box is particle wood. The speaker grills are metal and the 5 speaker boxes are made from hard plastic (dropped one hard from 4 feet before was fine), the amp is exactly designed for the speakers. The one way I know to blow the amp is if you use a pre-amp to over drive the system.. is what happened to my Z5300 when I left it with a GF. I have this now, happier anyways. This is loud enough for most small to medium apartments. I wish I could have dual subs for more balance though.. component systems have that one advantage. For an apartment I would say this system would be one of the best on the market. I use a little Bear 4 way passive mixer to give me 3 way output to all 5.1 channels when using an mp3 player or phone. Or I’ll used the 5.1 simulator which isn’t as loud though has its place for movies and scenic soundtracks. (This was made for computers which have 5.1 sound cards and outputs which phones don’t…) When my neighbor is using his component system and sub I can turn it up a little over half way and not hear anything from his commercials and talk radio. (Better than Bose noise canceling.) Last thing, many people have issues with needing to reset them… I had it running playing the same song for 2 weeks straight. Did this to train my neighbors not to start playing their music loud right when I go to bed for weeks, months years on end, after 2 weeks I needed to reset it (unplug plug in) after I shut it off. (During the two weeks play the power at my apartment surged twice and my UPS said I was getting 254V power surges). The thing was only on a 300 joule surge protector so it’s good quality electronics in this unit! Since I moved the amp and add the fan; I’ve never had overheating issues, shutoffs, or any real problems. Knock on wood.

Purchased with faith that with Amazon name behind it it would be well tested and whatever the first person sent it back for would be FIXED. The system was "difficult" at first to get to work, but finally got the input to recognize my soundcard (Soundblaster card and also onboard HD audio). After nevr having used the headphone port since purchase, I finally broke down and tried it. Seemed WEAK,even with source volume at max,on the controller of the Z906 had to be at near max to get a good clear sound. After about two hours I disconnected the headphone jack from the contoller box. Sound settings are now back to Logitech Z906 speakers-nada-nothing! Doublecheck PC for no enhancements,no exclusive use etc. and did a system restart (rechecking the settings) NOTHING. Went to Logitech site did the factory reset of 8 sec on INPUT (in OFF mode). NOTHING- no test tones-no sound at all. So I tried the headphones and all you hear during test is a "Thump-thump-thump-thump" of the signal, but no audio. PC,soundcard, onboard HD sound, and all optical and analog connections tested and working with other equipment. I would say these are defective and whatever they think they fixed, was not fixed totally. I have requested a refund since I AM within the 90 warranty. NO response from anyone yet after 2 days. I'll be back here to let you know with an update.
UPDATE: Contacted by Seller via Amazon to ship back at my expense. I will update if a refund is issued.

So we all know what the THX sound is, created at Skywalker ranch where I believe the first Star Wars sound studio was built. These are a set of Logitech THX 5.1 Surround Systems for PC or TV. I have these bad boys on my PC. These speakers are AMAZING. They sound amazing, they are clear, loud, and very well built!! Solid construction and good materials make these a great buy. PLUS I got them renewed by Amazon. YES...amazon is hit and miss with renewed items, but to get a Surround sound 5.1 system for under 300 bucks and one that sounds this good is criminal. Trust me well worth the price.....

Should have had Blutooth rear speakers. The remote is wireless so why not? I did not want rear speaker wired running across my living room floor... Oh well.....
