5.0 out of 5 stars Great for movies / games. Better than expected for music

I hesitated with Sonos Beam or Bose Smart 300 soundbars.
Sonos bothered me with their limited app, no Bluetooth... and aI tested a Bose Smart Soundbar 300 in the same price range.

For movies, video games, it's very good and balanced. You can really set your system up pretty easily for your room. I like the night mode that limits the sound dynamics.

I am a bit picky for music, and I had a pretty good surprise I must admit.
While the pure stereo mode is a bit disappointing, I was surprised by the surround mode for music, which I always fear to be like hearing a speaker in a huge cave... Not this time! It's actually precise, and adds a lot of clarity to voices, with a very good balance between instruments, voices...
Now, it's a 300$ soundbar, right, not a $2000 high end sound system dedicated to music, but honestly, I did not expect it at this level, hence my 5 stars.
If I could add more nuance ( because I am picky on music), it would not be a 5.0 , but more a 4.8, which is still a very good grade!

5.0 out of 5 stars Woah! Blown away!

Video & Audio Center seller is just awesome. I ordered the Q800C and received the Q800D in the package. Although the difference between the 2 is minimum I really wanted the built in Chromecast feature.
Since my previous setup was the Vizio V51 which in my opinion was nice too but the Samsung Q800D is definitely in a whole other league altogether. The base literally rattles things inside my house.
I am still setting up the system but I am already impressed by the output.

This is the best soundbar at the best price point on the market. The Q800C soundbar and sub are beyond amazing. Crisp and clear sound that fills the room and bass that can rattle my walls. Mine is running through the eArc HDMI for maximum clarity and paired with a 65" Samsung Q series TV; so they're literally made for each other. Since I set it up I've rewatched some Dolby Atmos capable movies (Rogue One/Infinity Wars/Dune) and I hear details in the sound I never notice before. I've paired them with a set of 9500 wireless rear speakers for a more immersive experience and I'm so glad I did.
I bought it as "reconditioned " but I can't see anything that would suggest it's ever been opened, even the bag of hardware was still sealed. What a bargain at that price. I'll go back to this seller for my next electronics purchase, thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible bang for buck - but has a few quirks

If you have done any research on Atmos soundbars, you would've seen mention of the Q990C (and earlier and later models) sitting at the top or near the top of the recommendations.

These systems do sound great and will please most people in the market for a great bang of buck Atmos soundbar. I had some issues with mine so chose to move to the Sennheiser Ambeo Max instead.

However, I have found issues with the bar:
* Sometimes the soundbar will click loudly when changing inputs
* The App doesn't reveal the latest firmware updates - so you have to manually update it using a USB stick in the service port of the bar
* The App in general doesn't have the best user experience - with a bunch of settings hidden away and its laggy. It also doesn't tell you obviously the codec being used - you have to go digging for this
* The rear speakers are relatively large
* The power leads provided are not as long as they should be
* The sub doesn't feel as well built as a Sonos sub for example

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be great, but as it is, just average.

So I've had my 990c for about a month now. I rewrote this review to try to be a bit more fair, as it originally trashed this soundbar. So, for movies, it is pretty amazing, the surround effects are pretty good. You'll find that to really get the most from the 990c, you'll need to have your volume at a fairly loud setting, in my case that's 18 and up. The rear speakers are pretty weak, and don't really get involved until an action scene plays, and then they kick in. The same can be said for the HORRIBLE subwoofer. It's non existent at lower volumes, and "kicks in" at higher volumes, which is hugely disappointing, as having good bass at lower volumes is pretty important to the overall sound.
The main bar itself is pretty amazing. Very clear, and dialog is spot on. You really need to install the smart things app to make sound adjustments, as the remote really sucks for that. But the app is pretty easy. Also, be sure to update the firmware, the current firmware is 1004.
Now for me, I got this as much for music as for movies, and I assume that at least some of you intend to do the same. In that respect, the 990c is at best, average. The reason why is the TERRIBLE subwoofer, or, if not the sub, the firmware, which REALLY limits its output until it gets to a higher volume level. You'll find that below say, 12 or 15, the sub is almost non existent. Once you get to those higher levels, it seems to "turn on" and You'll have decent bass from there. But, in my opinion, you should have great bass at any level, not when some engineer decided you should, and as far as I'm concerned, this is a HUGE flaw in the system. I also have a Vizio elevate p514a-h6 5.1.4, less than half the cost of the 990c, and it is nearly as good for movies, and definitely better for music, with a great, unrestrained subwoofer, and better overall control of the sound. Even my $150 Vizio V Series, with a 5" subwoofer, has better bass than this. If the subwoofer issue is because of the firmware, Samsung really needs to fix it by letting the customer decide how much bass they want. This system has great potential, but until they fix the subwoofer issue, it's just average. If you search for the reviews that discuss issues with the 990c, the number one complaint is the terrible subwoofer. I question all the experts who claim this to be the best system you can get, short of the $4k Nakamichi Dragon. It isn't. There are some pretty decent systems out there for half the cost. For what THIS system costs, it SHOULD sound amazing,....but with the crappy sub, it doesnt.

I was a little apprehensive that they would be as good as advertised. Oh boy was I wrong. They sound amazing. Room full of sound and the surround is crazy. Well worth the price!!!
