Broken oil tank. Inevitably, that has been the failure of EVERY chainsaw I've ever owned. Derelicts of the past include Black & Decker, Homelite, and Husqavarna, so it isn't like I throw money at off brands. This one is broken and leaking right out of the box. As a refurbished unit, this was the reason it was sent for refurbishment, too. Obviously, they just plugged a battery it is, saw it work and gave it a quick wipe down before shipping it back out the door. In the interceding three months between that and my purchase, the oil leaked out to the point that it soaked the shredded paper padding, the saw itself, the unbagged instructions (which would have been oilproofed by a plastic bag if I had spent the extra $70 for new instead of refurb). This is just sloppy workmanship. To make matters a bit worst, their website doesn't have photos, so you can't even tell if you're actually looking at the right part to order. I'll eventually be taking this apart to see if I can plastic-weld whatever fractures are in the oil tank, since the refurb plant Ryobi uses can't be trusted to properly replace it. ADDENDUM: the chain is so dull it won't even cut bark let alone a branch or tree. ADDENDUM 2: Got a new chain. It briefly cut like a hot knife through butter. Then something blew in the electronics and it is now dead. You're not buying a chainsaw; you're buying a damned doorstop because that is all it is really good for.
