5.0 out of 5 stars ice machine

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a good purchase

I got this for $170. At this price point, I am satisfied with my purchase.

    Pros
    • Makes perfect nugget ice.
    • Relatively small footprint on the kitchen counter.
    • Continually makes ice, unless there is no more room for ice in the basket or the machine has run out of water.

    Cons
    • Machine is loud. My kitchen and living room are basically in the same room and sometimes I have to turn up the TV to hear it clearly over the ice machine.
    • There is no refrigeration in the unit. The ice continually melts and refreezes.
    • You should use distilled water. This is preferred by me anyway, so not a big issue. Water with minerals in it will probably muck up the machine over time.
    • Ice basket is small. I am a single person, so this is not an issue for me. However, families who love their ice may want to purchase a larger machine that holds more at a single time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small to tiny cubes just what we needed.
Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024
Works well. Nice tiny cubes - great for someone that needs ice chips. Needs taller feet on the bottom back to tilt ice maker so ice does not back up so fast. I remedied it by placing a 1/2 inch piece of wood under the back feet (2 or 3 quarters under each leg would possibly work too). That will keep it making ice longer before needing to empty - unless you enjoy checking it more often. Use sandwich bags to put in freezer. When take out of freezer firmly throw bag on counter and then flip and repeat as needed. Cubes break apart nicely.

3.0 out of 5 stars You may want to think twice on this…

The ice maker comes well packed… In fact, it’s extremely hard to get it out of the box as it is also heavy. From the picture you can see that the ice is very small. It is chewable ice, so it is not terribly dense or hard. It is cold, but probably will not cool a beverage (like coffee) if it’s still warm—without melting completely. Putting it together is not a big deal because there are very few pieces. But the cleaning protocols were enough to make me want to return it before I even used it… Just waited too long to try it, and did not feel like running out today. It is suggested that you clean before you begin, which makes sense. It’s best to set it up next to the sink because you’ll need to drain the reservoir into the sink. They suggest you might want to clean it daily, which I won’t do. We will be using ice all the time. I’m still not convinced that this was a good investment. It’s loud!! In the kitchen with it running, it sounds like a truck engine idling next to your car. From the living room, which is next to the kitchen, it’s still loud. Ice starts coming out probably in about 10 minutes, though the cubes are very small so you would probably need a lot of cubes to get something really cold. It’s still running so I cannot speak to how long it takes to fill the miniature ice basket. I’m not terribly pleased with the amount of cleaning suggested. I’m putting filtered water in; not tap water. It’s cheaper than buying a new refrigerator with a icemaker. But I’m not sure it was worth the money or what I anticipate to be a weekly or monthly cleaning regimen. The cleaning takes 15 minutes. If you’re trying to remove mineral deposits from the water, it is suggested that you use vinegar and water, drain it, and then run the rinse cycle three times… Which is 15 minutes each time. I have ice cube trays that are BPA free that I bought on Amazon. I’m thinking that while they are a pain to refill from the Britta pitcher, they are definitely better ice cubes. You win some, you lose some.

UPDATE: having used this icemaker for several days, there are several things to share. When the ice first starts coming out, it appears slushy, but then after a time it gets harder and does a pretty good job of keeping cool things really cold. When the ice lands in the basket, I do not believe that portion of the icemaker is refrigerated. I believe that as the ice in the bottom of the basket melts, the machine must make use of that water to create more ice cubes. You might want to think about storing the ice you’ve made in a plastic BPA-free container in the freezer, though the ice tends to be wet and may well stick together as it freezes. I might suggest using something hard to break the ice apart, like a wooden spoon… Not the plastic scoop that they give you. The biggest problem that I have with this ice maker is that it is so, so very LOUD. It runs continuously through breakfast so we end up turning it off; and when we are done eating, we turn it on again and leave the room. It runs a lot! However, if you don’t have an ice maker or don’t want to deal with the struggle of ice cube-making in your freezer, this will make ice. I don’t think it will make enough for a party, as the cubes are very small… Unless you start hours ahead and freeze what you have. There again, the consistency of the cubes may make it hard to break apart. But once they start to melt, there are small enough that breaking them apart should be relatively easy.

Works well, the ice nuggets are exactly what we were wanting. The only downside so far is that the ice maker is a bit noiser than expected.
