A little louder than expected. Ice starts melting if not used right away. To heavy to take to the sink for drainage.

Very nice addition if you love you some crunchy ice like sitting in the car at Sonic. Ingenious tech. Always some ice to dole out. Only downside is it's a bit loud. Easy to clean. Not for large parties. We'll made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meets my craving for “Sonic Ice”
Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2024
This review may be a bit premature as I received it just 4 days ago. But that being said, I’m very impressed. I love “Sonic Ice” and until last month’s 33% price increase bought a bag averaging every 5 days. Doing the math, that’s nearly $300 a year in ice! And that doesn’t include the cost to go get it. I was greatly annoyed by the recent price increase and began looking for an alternative. As has become a habit, I turned to Amazon. I was surprised to find how many small ice makers were available. The only experience I had with them previously was one my son bought that had a very small capacity, and doesn’t seem to produce much ice. I searched for those that had a larger ice storage capacity, and which seemed to produce ice quickly.
I read lots of reviews and this seemed pretty good. I hoped that it would produce at least two extra large cups of ice per 12 hours. I received it and based on a review that mentioned the importance af letting it sit upright for some time before using it to insure it will run quietly, I waited four hours. I then cleaned it per the directions (which were not real clear about when to drain it.) I then filled it with water and in about 8 minutes it began producing approximately 5mm x 5mm x 10 mm rectangular pieces of ice. Although slightly smaller than I expected, they are a great size. Within 3 hours I had more than an extra large (40 oz) cup of ice. That was a lot more ice than I expected. The next three nights we turned it off, and turned it on in the morning. Within an hour I have enough ice to fill a medium cup, and letting run the rest of the day I have more ice than I can use, and I use a lot of ice! As most small ice makers do, it reuses the water from the melted ice. I have to fill the reservoir one or twice a day but It produces more ice than I expected. It wouldn’t work for a party, or a bunch of ice-loving kids, but it’s plenty for me for a full day of retirement.
Others have stated it would be nice if it had cold storage for ice, but that would be cost prohibitive. Even hotel ice makers don’t have refrigerated storage. Each of the first three days of usage I put the leftover ice in a gallon freezer bag, and put it in our freezer. The next morning it was a lump of ice, but I hit the bag with a deadblow hammer, and the ice broke into small pieces. I put the bag back in the freezer and the next evening the ice was still separated. I added that day’s leftover ice, and the next evening the deadblow again separated it into pieces. The third evening the gallon freezer bag was full of ice. Based on my former experience with bagged “Sonic Ice” I believe I could save a lot of ice in this manner.
Other reviewers mentioned it was loud. I guess that depends on your definition of loud. We would compare it to a small desktop fan. Louder than a refrigerator, but not enough to bother my naps in the living room next to the kitchen.
If my thoughts about it change I will update this review.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Customer Support from Seller
Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2024
Ice maker does not work. Reached out to seller, they provided a how to clean PDF. That did not support the issue, all the machine does is recycle the water from the reservoir to the top of the machine. Once the issue was raised, the Seller stop responding.

I have requested a return/refund from seller, and seller no longer responds. Very bad customer service.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Mostly As Described
Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024
Makes soft, chewable ice. It will taste like the water in your house.

But this ice maker is a disappointment in several ways.

First, the description on Amazon says it's easy to clean. I disagree. To clean this thing:

1. Remove the ice and ice bin.
2. Drain any water.
3. Add hot tap water and a few tablespoons of bleach to the reservoir.
4. Set it to clean mode for 15 minutes. You have to set your own timer somewhere.
5. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4.
6. Drain water and bleach.
7. Fill with hot tap water.
8. Set it to clean mode for a few minutes. Again, set an egg timer or timer on your phone or Alexa.
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7.
10. Wipe it out, top and bottom, with a lint-free cloth.
11. Add water and start making ice.

*WHEEE* Minimum 45 minutes. Do this every month.

Keep in mind that you have to clean any ice maker in a similar way. My point isn't that it's time consuming. My point is that it isn't as easy as the description claims it is.

Second, a picture in the description on Amazon shows it being used outside. The instruction booklet says do not use it outside. Even if you do decide to use it outside, you have to let it sit at least a few hours before you can turn it on so the refrigerant settles and you don't damage the cooling system.

Third, the ice maker cannot fill its ice bin more than about 50% by itself. You have to manually move the ice from under the ice chute every 15 - 20 minutes. If not, you won't get much ice at a time. For example, when I get up in the morning or get home in the afternoon there are about five scoops of ice in the bin (and the scoop that comes with the ice maker is pretty small). I need to put three scoops in a 24 oz cup of liquid. There's literally not enough ice for a second 24 oz cup. It's a good thing I'm the only person who uses ice in the house.

Fourth, there's no insulation for the ice bin. Water condenses on the outside of the bin, then runs into the water reservoir. "Oh, good," you say. "A little extra water." No! Bad! Water condensed from ordinary house air is full of contaminants. You really shouldn't even breathe the stuff. This is probably one reason you have to clean it monthly.

The description on Amazon says it holds about one-third of a gallon of water. A gallon is 144 ounces. One third of that is 48 ounces. (Someone check my math. You - in the back. Am I right? Yeah? I am? Ok.) That much water is more than the fill-line in the reservoir. The bottom of the ice bin is submerged in the water, melting the ice at the bottom and raising the water level to melt more ice more quickly. Don't refill it with more than 36 ounces, or one quart. (Sorry, you Euro-people. You'll have to do your own conversions from US ounces to whatever it is that you use. CCs? Liters?)

Sixth, the 36-ounce water reservoir is so small I usually have to add water daily, sometimes twice a day. (It works out to needing water an average of every 18 hours for as much ice as I use. And remember, it's just me!) I really should have opted for the $400 ice maker to get the much bigger reservoir. Yeah, it is five times more money. How much is your time worth?

Seventh, I don't know how much noise it makes, but it's louder than I'd like. The only reasonable place to put it is next to the fridge. Unfortunately, that's also feet away from the living room where the TV lives.

Not going to return it. I knew it wouldn't be adequate when I bought it, and I bought it anyway. My fault. Why should I make the seller pay for my mistake?
