    I bought this ice maker nearly 2 years ago, and it just stopped working this morning. What a great ice maker this is to have lasted this long under daily, heavy use. Our normal kitchen fridge/freezer has a built-in icemaker, but it tends to constantly freeze up. So, we gave up on trying to fix that one and bought this one instead. We let this unit run around the clock so ice is always available, and it kept working like a charm for nearly two years. I did weekly cleaning cycles on it, but those don't take long, and then you're back in action. I would highly recommend this ice maker.

    My husband was tired of travelling to the store every two or three days to buy me ice. Not just any ice at any store, it had to be a certain ice. Bless him, I have the best husband. I drink lots of ice water and love to chew on the ice. Our new home came with a fancy fridge with a built in ice maker/crusher that we don't use. The ice is too hard, and when you use the crushing option, it provides you with smaller chunks of razor like ice shards. Needless to say we don't even have it hooked up anymore. The ice I prefer is round with a hole in the center. I'm not sure how or why, but it produces a softer less deadly, chewable ice. I'm not a huge fan of the snow cone type ice as it melts too fast and even from the start there is really nothing to chew. So my husband figured he spends close to $400 a year on ice. This does not include transportation to and from the store. I found this ice maker online and he said "GET IT!!" I purchased it and told him not to get his hopes up because if I didn't like the ice it produces, it's going back. Well that isn't the case. I LOVE the ice, it's smaller and even softer than the ice we had been purchasing from the store. It also has the hole in the center of the cube, which makes me wonder if that is the key to soft chewable ice. The unit is fairly quiet. In fact it's much quieter that the refrigerator ice maker. I think it's because it has less of an ice drop to create that earth shattering noise. It works really fast. I've only made the large cubes, which are still fairly small, and it will produce them in about 10 minutes. It drops enough to fill a small glass, but in 10 more minutes you have more. We hooked it up, left the house for 2 hours and came home to a full bin of ice. I emptied into a large 2 gallon ziploc freezer bag. It took about 4 full bins to fill that bag up. When the ice enters the ziploc it's a little wet, so it tends to refreeze in the freezer and make a solid chunk. This chunk easily separates with one hard drop of the bag onto the counter, so this is not an issue at all. The 2 gallon bag takes up a lot less space in the freezer than the 20lb bag we had previously been buying. I primarily take from the counter top unit when I fill my glass and save my ziploc as a backup. The rest of the family uses a lot of ice and the unit does well to meet our demand. My only complaints (and they are by no means deal breakers) are that the counter unit is much larger than I was expecting. I wish it took up less space on the counter AND for being so large, the bin that holds the ice is rather small and fills up quickly. That's all.. Otherwise, I love it. So happy to have found it.

    The only reason this product doesn't get 5 stars is because my first one didn't make it a full month before crapping out on me. Around the 2-2.5 week mark, it started making this awful growling/grating noise (which I decided to live with because I'm lazy). Right around the 1 month mark, it finally gave up completely and the cooling unit failed, so no nice was being made and the ice that was in the collection tray melted. Thankfully, this was right before my 30 day return window, so I was able to exchange it for a new unit. It has now been 2 months of 24/7 use and still no issues.

    I would imagine best practice is to use it to make ice as needed and leave it off the rest of the time. The unit only takes a few mins to make ice in each round, and with in 20 mins you'll have plenty of ice for several people. The manufacturer claims the collection tray will keep ice for up to about 18 hrs and this seems to be accurate. My machine is on 24/7, but typically only runs several times a day as the ice falls below the fill line.

    This is a Wonderfully Amazing Machine!!! This is NOT a flimsy little machine. It is a heavy duty ice maker!!! It makes so much ice that I have to turn it off at times because my freezer is small and it gets full quickly!!! This machine has an off and on switch, so you can simply turn it off when you don't need it or when you have enough ice. The small ice cube setting makes a very large ice cube!!! It comes with a nice ice scoop that I keep in a gallon freezer bag in my freezer to dump my fresh ice into so that it will freeze hard. For those complaining about how wet the ice is when it comes out, the ice I buy in bags is wet, too!!! ICE IS WET before it freezes!!! Just put your fresh ice in a baggie, allow it to freeze hard, then break it up by slamming it on your counter, and dump it into your ice bag. At least, you won't have a huge lump of ice cubes all frozen together!!!

    This machine is heavy, so take it out of the box close to the table or counter where you plan to use it. You'll want to allow it to sit for 2 hours before using it because the Freon (or coolant) has to settle in the machine. The cleaning instructions are confusing, so I just wiped it down good and filled the reservoir. I threw out all the ice that it made out, drained it, and sopped up all the water, then refilled it. It makes ice very quickly, so soon I was putting ice in the freezer. I am so tickled!!! Now I don't have to remember to buy a bag of ice at the store!!! I am in ICE HEAVEN!!! This is a quality machine, so I don't expect any problems any time soon!!! However, if you are worried about it going out on you, buy the 4 year warranty like I did and then you'll have PEACE of MIND!!!

    UPDATE!!! In May 2018, after a year and 2 months of great service, this ice maker died! When I purchased my ice maker, I bought a 4 year warranty thru Square Trade. I have called and they have approved my claim and are going to send me a check!!! I went ahead and bought a new one. I hope that my new ice maker lasts as long as this one did!!!
