It was time to replace our 20 year old Whirlpool double ovens, and I chose to go with Frigidaire this time. I know that most major brands of consumer appliances are made the same, and sometimes in the same factories, with only minor cosmetic or feature differences, so most of us pick the ones we want based on price and availability. I like the Frigidaire Gallery Collection, however, so that was how I made my choice. That, and the fact the Frigidaire has fan circulation and true convection capability.
The ovens are pretty, with a nice stainless steel exterior and black enamel-look interior. The steel on the doors is smudge-resistant, a big consideration when choosing stainless appliances. Fingerprints on stainless are a huge negative, and this oven seems to resist them well. The control panel is sleek and all-touch. There are many features, all accessed from that small panel.
The first thing we baked - a cake -was a mixed bag. We didn't use convection so we could judge it against our old one, and the new oven actually took longer to finish the cake and brown it. Afterwards, I used a probe thermometer hanging in the middle of the oven to test it,, and it was right on. Perhaps our old oven was running hot all those years (?) We'll have to see how it does as time goes on.
My main gripe with this oven is the timer. I absolutely cannot hear the beep when the time is up. It's apparently at the exact frequency my ears don't pick up, since my wife says she can hear it. I bought a stainless steel oven timer, though, and it works beautifully.
My other complaint is that the single oven light is on the left rear corner of the oven, which doesn't provide even illumination to check on things being baked or broiled. Not a huge negative, but at this price couldn't they have put one in both corners?
We're happy with the ovens so far. The big test, of course, will come during the holidays, when both ovens will be going for hours. In the meantime, I consider this a 5-star product, in spite of the minor gripes.
