We owned an icemaker previously, and it failed after a year and a half. The failure might have been because I didn't clean it often enough or properly. NOTE: I think it is important to closely follow cleaning schedule and instructions for these machines.
This machine was much less expensive than the one previous, but very similar in design, features, and function to the one previous. It has done very well so far, and I have a hunch it will last better since I am keeping it on a schedule of cleaning. The ice is made very fast, and the volume is far more than sufficient for a house with five adults. The ice is not "chewy," but it does not freeze to be hard, and as it melts, it becomes very soft and chewable.
