5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a nice range hood in black stainless!
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2021
I purchased this range hood to replace an old Broan range hood in stainless steel that had a broken bulb bracket and was always extremely difficult to access and change the bulb. It was probably 10+ years old and no longer matched in my kitchen with my new Frigidaire Gallery appliances in black stainless. I searched high and low for a mid-range hood that fit the bill and wouldn't be a huge hassle to install. I took some measurements, searched for those specifically and found this range hood. First off, I'd like to add some pros and cons.

Pros: - absolutely stunning appearance.
- Matches Frigidaire Gallery black stainless
- Has flush LED nodule lights that are bright and efficient.
- Fan is like 375 CF so it definitely has some good suction power but it relatively quiet.
- Touch buttons add a hint of modernized look and feel to the range hood
- screwing it up to the cabinet was pretty straightforward
- has a few different options for different types ductwork and also a ductless option.
- mesh grates are really nice looking, they don't remind you of steel wool like some of the others. They appear to be easy to clean and the finger cups are a nice touch that should make them easy to remove and put back up.

Cons: - breakaway parts didn't break away easily.
-screws and brackets were mounted inside kind of inconspicuous so it was difficult to find them initially
- came with a duct insert "flapper" that didn't fit right, even though it was the right size.
- Had a directional plate installed that was supposed to help divert the air and steam to the fan, but actually rubbed on the fan so badly that we thought the fan blades were bent or that the motor was broken.
- LED lighting doesn't look like it would be easily accessible when it comes time to change them.
- Not sure what or where you would order the LED replacement lights when they go bad, I hope they last a while because I have no idea still where to purchase, what to purchase, or how to change them out.

Overall, I definitely think this range hood is worth it, while there were some installation issues that I noted in the cons section that almost made us dismantle and send it back, we were able to figure it out and it works flawlessly now. I'm very happy with the purchase and even happier with how well it matches my black stainless Frigidaire gallery appliances. My kitchen is now complete, thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vent, Great Price!
Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021
We replaced a microwave oven that had a vent built in. Needless to say that microwave vent just didn't work very well even though we have the duct work to vent outside.

*First thing, be sure to buy a separate wire harness if you plugging this into the wall...it does not come with one*

Install: I installed this by myself. It was not difficult at all using the brackets that came with the unit. The brackets screw into the shelf (see photo) and allow you to hang the unit on the brackets. Then you are able to screw a total four screws into the brackets (2 on each side) to safely secure the unit. Once installed you can then route the ducting to it and plug it in.

Looks: The unit looks great. The black stainless steel matches our refrigerator and microwave...doesn't look out of place with the black/stainless stove.

The fan: The suction power is very strong and works very well. Note, there are 3 levels for the fan and the 3rd level is the loudest. I would recommend the second level for standard cooking.

The lights: The LED lights are very bright (in a good way). There are 2 levels for the lights, the 2nd is probably brighter than you'll ever need but I'm not complaining.

Overall this is a great value for the money. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone.

*Don't forget to buy a wire harness if you plan to plug this unit into a wall socket*

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as quiet as advertised and installation isn't trivial but it looks pretty good...
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2020
I bought this to replace an existing Broan range hood in our kitchen when we refaced our cabinets. It was the same height and width as the previous hood with the same type of duct so it looked like it could be swapped in easily. I did the installation myself and it wasn't very difficult but it also wasn't trivial.

My previous hood was installed using the rear 3.25x10 rectangular duct. In order for this to work the ducts in the wall and the back of the hood have to line up within 1/4 of an inch. In my case, because I was working with an existing hole, they did not. I was able to modify the duct coupler on the back of the unit to move it down 1/4 of an inch to get everything to align. The instructions suggest that you use foil tape to seal up all the joints in the ductwork. On a horizontal installation like mine, this is impossible because the last joint is inside the wall. However, I was able to seal up the joints where the coupler met the back of the hood and all the unnecessary little holes added to the hood during manufacturing. Anyway just keep in mind you need foil tape to complete the installation. You'll also need a bushing (not provided) for where the electrical wire feeds through the back of the hood to protect the wire from the sharp metal edges and to be within code.

The range hood that I was replacing was completely flat on top so it installed very flush with my cabinets. The new unit has these optional one-person installation brackets which introduce a number of 1/8" raised holes in the hood. The net result is that there is a 1/8" gap between the hood and the bottom of the cabinet above it regardless of how you install it. In our kitchen, with under-mount cabinet lighting, I could see light reflected off our light-colored backsplash and through this gap. It looked sloppy. I purchased 1/8" black foam weather stripping which I ran along the bottom of the cabinet to seal this gap and now it looks sharp.

This hood can be installed in one of four different configurations. There are three ducted installations: 3.25x10 rear, 3.25x10 top, and 7" round top vent. Venting out the top will generally avoid the exact alignment and duct sealing problems that I mentioned but it means that you will lose some of your cabinet space. Apparently, the 7" round duct is the quietest and that is important because I did not find this unit to be that much quieter than the old unit that it replaced. On the lowest setting (which really doesn't move enough air for cooking anything) it makes more noise than my Bosch dishwasher but is quieter than my Microwave oven. You can talk over it on the medium setting (which does move enough air for cooking) but it still drives my wife crazy on the high setting and she won't use it.

The final installation configuration is ductless which I would never do. The vent in the ductless configuration is on the top front of the unit where you mostly can't see it. However when you turn it on you would be blowing damp air right into your cabinet doors which would, I believe, eventually destroy them.

Despite all these little gotchas, I got it installed and it looks very sharp and works well. The controls are unobtrusive and the lights are bright (they have two different settings). The bottom of the unit is also screened in so if you are sitting in a chair across the room and are looking up at it it looks nicely finished. I would buy it again.
